Heh, I think I would hand the team over to Moran before either of those two. No real reason, just gut feeling he’d be the better choice.
I think we need to give Vanderpool a shot at it. He'll eventually leave for another head coach position if he isn't promoted anyway. He's got a good rapport with the players and seems to have a lot of passion for what he does. Worst case is that he's doesn't get anything more from the players than Stotts did and we hire a fresh HC in the summer.
Time to bring Messina and Billups and a completely new culture to this Franchise. Billups is a Champion and knows how to build a Team that can win a Championship, and Messina, well he's from Popovich school, You can not go wrong with someone like that
I think he is a good coach too, but I don't think he has lost the team. Dame is his subordinate and the team is Dame's subordinate. He doesn't lose the team unless he loses Dame. However, I think this team is ready for a great coach. Not a good one. We need a two way coach, or a coach that understands he needs help to coach both sides of the court.
Popovich’ tree has a ton of burnouts, so it’s no sure thing. Messina has proven himself overseas before pop even hired him, so I wouldn’t really consider him part of his tree anyway. If we want a younger guy I think Darren Erman should get a look.
IM not in tune with the NCAA. Is there the next Brad Stevens out there at all? Who is a college buff?
Beware of what happened in CHI. They tried to pull a 180 and let go of Hoiberg for a guy who was more of a hardass. He lost the team in 3 days. Keep going back to this. What do we want differently that Stotts doesn't offer? I hate the idea of changing a coach JUST for a change given the roster we have. Won't do a damn thing outside of the natural new coach bump.
What's the opposite of a knee jerk reaction, for fuck's sake? Not to feed a fed horse (questions about this ridiculous saying? see wtf), but shouldn't this have happened on 4/22/18 at the very latest? 10 straight playoff losses? Annual rollercoaster rides where late season success 1. erases all of what we are experiencing now and 2. comes at the expense of grinding Dame to near dust. Let's just start here. Step 1.
Id prefer a younger guy just so there isn't the concern of old school play mentality that doesn't fit into today's league.
I said it in my first post this morning. Stott's doesn't offer in game adjustments. Stott's doesn't offer consistency to the younger players to develop their OWN consistency. Stott's doesn't offer a defensive game plan at all for the most part. Watch how teams switch on us all the time to create mismatches? When do we do that? When we get lucky because the offence we are defending sputters is about it.
So a friend just let me know we are one game shy of tieing the all time playoff losing streak set by NY over 11 seasons. We did it in three. IF we do, we will have done it in 4. Awesome.
These kinds of changes don't happen during the season. Unless we tank and lose a bunch of games in a row, Terry's job is safe til the summer.
Portland’s in game adjustments, or lack of, is comically bad. I’d say that’s Stotts biggest downfall.
Yep. And @BonesJones has been saying this for a couple years now I believe. I think its time more of us listen to the kid. He has some knowledge.
Yeah, but I think that might happen. Not purposefully, but we cant scheme worth shit and we have as tough stretch right now. This could be the back breaker. Kinda hoping it is.
I like the way he has coached the LV league teams, and he has a way with players that they seem to respond too. His enthusiasm and energy is something this team needs, I also like the mean streak in him that can fire players up. He had the last two summer teams playing Defense.
