Just a wild guess, but am I right to assume you don't like Obama much?

Wow...someone should read the Obamatron article.

I don't know if Denny's making it up or not, I haven't seen any of the reporting sources in a couple of days. But wouldn't it be "fair and balanced" to report, you know, things that actually happened? Does he have to hate Obama to report that he said "Cinco de quatro"? Or just be "fair"?

For my own edification, can someone (preferably someone who falls into the demographic) tell me if it's insulting or not that Hispanics are all lumped together to celebrate "Mexican Independence Day"?

I mean, is a Puerto Rican or Guatemalan hispanic person a celebrant of Cinco de Mayo?

I'm as white as they come, and a bunch of my friends (none of whom are Mexican--we've got WASPs, Koreans, and Chinese) are getting together for a party tonight using CdM as the excuse for it. But I don't know if it's different for the hispanic demographic.

    Thoughts?

OK . . . I was more commenting not on the fairness ( :dunno: ) . . . he is saying happy cinco de mayo to HCP and then threw a one line sentence about Obama. To me, that made it more about Obama than HCP . . . but maybe I read it differently from others.

    "Fair" enough. :)

I was just pointing out that potentially someone could think it was funny, whether or not they voted for the President. And that's ok. The Obamatron point I was trying to make is that flaws/gaffes of our leaders (not just the Pres) can be pointed out without "hating" them. And the good things they do can be pointed out without being a kool-aid-drinking fanboy.

Kind of like in my post about nuclear power, where I said something to the effect of "nuclear, not nook-u-ler". I was poking fun at something the President gaffed on that was germane to my topic. I don't think there was malice aforethought. Or maybe there was. :dunno:

For instance, whatever party you belong to, do you think Al Franken's curriculum vitae is such that you think he'd be a good senator?

My guess is if you went on the street and polled people, over 80% would have no idea what the significance of May 5th is to the Mexican people.

I too think it is OK to laugh at the president. I thought Shooters cartoon of Obama not knowing how to take a piss without a telepromter was funny . . . and funny because there is a slice of truth in the cartoon . . . I'm slowing buying into the idea that Obama needs a telepromter to deliver a good speech . . . not quite there yet but this board is slowly changing me.

I don't know much about Franken, so I wouldn't be a good person to answer that question. Sounds like his opponent has a lot of material to use against him tough.
