Schwarzer, 37, and Cole, 28, could both sign contracts to play for Arsenal this week. Aussie national Mark Schwarzer is strongly linked with a move to Emirates to take over for Manuel Almunia. The Fulham keeper is expected to cost Arsenal £2-million. Schwarzer would be a stop-gap keeper while the Gunners wait for Wojciech Szczęsny to develop.
Re: Mark Schwarzer expected to sign this week From what I saw in the world cup, he's shit. but at the moment, I;m willing to try anything.
Re: Mark Schwarzer expected to sign this week You've failed to take into account the absolutely shitfull defence in front of him. Australia would have been demolished without Schwarzer. Great shot stopper. Fantastic penalty saver (unlike most keepers, he doesn't guess; he waits for the shot, then backs his reaction). Poor at coming out for crosses (although much better now that he's decided to punch rather than catch). Great keeper (an upgrade over Almunia), maybe not the right fit for Arsenal (our centre backs aren't the greatest at dealing with crosses either).
Re: Mark Schwarzer expected to sign this week He's Almunia 2.0 , I guess its better than the old version.
Re: Mark Schwarzer expected to sign this week Fulham have reportedly rejected our offer and now we are looking elsewhere for a keeper.
Re: Mark Schwarzer expected to sign this week [update: Fulham rejects bid] Good 'keeper, but we could find better.
Mark Schwarzer offered player/coach gig with Gunners? The latest rumour is despite Fulham rejecting our initial bid of £3-million for the Aussie national, Arsenal's interest in Mark Schwarzer has not waned. We're reportedly offering Fulham more cash and giving Schwarzer a chance not only to play, but to be an assistant coach with the team.
Re: Mark Schwarzer offered player/coach gig with Gunners? Two friendlies so far. Mannone, Tex, and Flapianski have all played. Almunia is history -- He won't wear the Arsenal kit again.
Re: Mark Schwarzer offered player/coach gig with Gunners? Arsenal and Schwarzer have agreed personal terms and the signing will be announced as late as tomorrow. Take my word for it.
Re: Mark Schwarzer expected to sign this week [update: Fulham rejects bid] Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Schwarzer and will be announced as late as tomorrow.
Re: Mark Schwarzer saga [merged] Good news if true. Starting the season with Almunia/Fabianski is not what anyone wanted. He is a place holder, really, as we continue to develop Fabianski (shudder) and the other Pole. Dunno what the deal is with Mannone--seems he's a couple years out.
Re: Mark Schwarzer saga [merged] You know this but in case anyone else hasn't heard, the rumour is Brad Friedel to Fulham, Mark Schwarzer to Arsenal, and Manuel Almunia to Aston Vila.
Re: Mark Schwarzer saga [merged] Almunia to back up Brad Guzan I would hope. If they're dealing Friedel, he's ready to step in.
Re: Mark Schwarzer saga [merged] Good news! Schwarzer is better than any of our current keepers. However we still need a defensive signing. Unless we fix our porous defence, any keeper is going to have a tough time of it.
Re: Mark Schwarzer saga [merged] Rumors of another player joining Arsenal. Could be moving faster than the Schwarzer deal. Calm before the storm? It is most definitely a defender, my money on Spahic, Tasci, or Sakho.
