This makes me sad. Such a great artist. I remember this girl giving me the Controversy and Dirty Mind albums in high school. Mind blowing! So raw, so different than anything else out there. Instant fan! Then 1999... The Purple Rain, whoa... up until that point movies aimed at my generation were Fast Times at Ridgemont High and the John Hughes movies, this was on an entirely different level. Saw the Purple Rain tour at the Tacoma Dome. Anyway, RIP to one of the greatest Rock Stars ever. You will be truly missed!
Not a Prince song but one of the all time mother fucking greatest guitar solos ever! Seriously, fucking ever! It was so incredible that when Prince was done the guitar floated up to heaven.
This is a great loss to the world of Funk Rock....truly great singer and guitarist..I'm shocked..the dude has gone way too soon..RIP
I don't normally follow celebrities or get too sad about things, but Prince and Bowie both hit me. What an amazing musician and song writer. Makes me even more upset I couldn't afford tickets when he played two nights at the Roseland last year.
Strangely, I feel the same as when Frank Zappa died. They were so different but on the same level of genius. Whose effect on society is probably as incalculable as Bob Dylan's. Prince was the real deal. When he first signed his Warner Brothers, the label tested him in the studio to see how he had performed all the instruments himself. He's like Todd Rundgren, in he was so great at engineering, performing writing, arranging.... you forget he was one of the greatest guitarists. It's just a huge loss to the world. And I love that his favorite album was supposedly, "Hissing On Summer Lawns." Jon Mitchell is the ultimate sign of cool and music taste.
