Favre can become the winningest quarterback in NFL historySunday when the Green Bay Packers visit the banged-up New YorkGiants. The 17-year veteran was unspectacular in last week'sseason-opening 16-13 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles,completing 23-of-42 passes for 206 yards and an interception. But Favre got plenty of help from Green Bay's special teams totie Hall of Famer John Elway's mark with his 148th careervictory. Cornerback Jarrett Bush recovered J.R. Reed's muffedpunt at the Eagles 31 with 59 seconds left, setting up MasonCrosby's game-winning 43-yard field goal. "I think ultimately you're judged by wins and losses, but Ithink that is unfair to the rest of my team," Favre said. "Howcan the quarterback who is one of 53 (players) be labeled withwins and losses and not the center or safety or whatever. Butthat's the way it is and I'm glad there's a lot more wins thanthere is losses." Now, Favre could be getting another break as he is facing aGiants team that was hit hard by injuries in last week's 45-35loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants could be without quarterback Eli Manning, runningback Brandon Jacobs and defensive end Osi Umenyiora, who allwent down against the Cowboys. Jacobs has been ruled out of Sunday's game with a sprainedmedial collateral ligament of the right knee and will beevaluated on a week-to-week basis. Jacobs will be replaced byDerrick Ward, who rushed for 89 yards on 13 carries and caughtfour passes for 27 yards last week. The status of Manning, who suffered a contusion on the top ofhis throwing shoulder in the fourth quarter against the Cowboys,and Umenyiora (left knee irritation) are uncertain. According to various reports, Manning is expected to miss up toa month but the Giants have not ruled him out of Sunday's gameand coach Tom Coughlin described the injury as a "sprainedshoulder." "It's sore right now, that's about all there is to it," Manningsaid on Monday. "The day after you get hit on it, it's justgoing to be a little sore and a little tight. But overall I'mnot in pain or am not hurting in any way. So it is just amatter of when I can throw the ball." Manning has started 40 consecutive games, the fourth-longestactive streak in the NFL. He played well against the Cowboys,completing 28-of-41 passes for 312 yards and a career high-tyingfour touchdowns. However, Favre will look to exploit the Giants' porous defense,which gave up huge chunks of yardage last week. Dallasquarterback Tony Romo completed 15-of-24 passes for 345 yardsand four touchdowns - an average of 23 yards per completion. The Packers are seeking their sixth straight win dating to theend of last season. They have not started 2-0 since 2001, whenthey opened 3-0.
