Garafolo's right. This really is the first time Reese has spent a substantial amount of money on a free agent acquisition, which is pretty astounding when you look at how successful we've been without being active in free agency.

I like the Boley signing a lot. He had a very good early career in Atlanta before the new coach was hired. Smith's defensive philosophy emphasized reading-and-reacting, whereas Boley thrives when playing off his instincts and aggressively attacking. Assuming we keep the same sort of scheme that Spagnuolo instituted (don't see why we wouldn't), that's exactly the type of play we promote. Our LB's have been solid tacklers, but nothing more than that for the last few seasons. I think they we considering converting Kiwanuka precisely because of his athleticism and explosiveness. Since we've moved away from that experiment, Boley brings that same sort of explosiveness and athleticism while being more of a sure-thing.

btw, Garafolo goes on to detail the other players the Giants are looking at right now. Apparently we're focusing on the D-line once again. We're looking at Rocky Bernard, Chris Canty, and Antonio Smith, and I think Reese wants more depth so that we won't be so set back if Robbins has another injury.
