For RHPs Henry Sosa and Jason Stoffel.

Also Hector Sanchez sent down to AAA and Belt called up. Belt is starting at 1B tonight and hitting 6th in the lineup. 2B Nick Noonan also moved from AA to AAA- a possible indicator that Brett Pill may get a look soon.

Don't know a whole lot about the Keppinger but he was one of the names you kept hearing pop up as an option for the G's. It seems like we almost got him for free. Sosa used to be a prospect with some clout but he seems to have fallen off the last couple of seasons. Hes now 25 too. Stoffel is a decent pitching prospect and still only 22.

Keppinger is an odd guy to peg though. Hes played almost every position on the field at one point or another but is a 2B, SS, 3B in that order. He was pretty meh for several years then last year bumped his line to .288/.351/.393 and started walking a ton. This season hes bumped the BA up to .307, the OBP took a dip to .320, and the slugging is up to .436. Most interestingly, he has 4 BB and 7 K in 163 ABs (!?). Last season he had 51 BB and 37 K in 575 AB.

Clear upgrade as our new starting 2B and likely 2 hole hitter. Check out this lineup:

CF Torres, 2B Keppinger, 3B Sandoval, RF Schierholtz, LF Ross, 1B Belt, SS Crawford, C Whiteside/Stewart, P.

Still not a very titillating lineup but its a clear step in the right direction. That 2 hole is locked in and we've got a clear, respectable 1-3 in the order. Schierholtz, Ross, and Belt aren't terrible at the 4-6 spots either. Keppinger cost us very little so we've still got some ammo to go after an upgrade at C or possibly LF.

And for the future, Keppinger has a year of arbitration left. Anyone know what kind of pick we would get if he walks? He'd be a hell of a utility guy for next season but I would imagine he'll command more money than a guy like Fontenot.

hadnt thought about him at all...still a clear upgrade, and if there is something we can afford to trade, its pitching.

stoffel is the better prospect, but he is a closer type, and doesnt project to be a dominant one, i guess im happy enough...anyone know keppingers contract? expiring?

also, i am REALLY pulling for belt to hit well enough to keep the job, if he develops into a good player, the future is looking bright

Hes got arbitration for 2012 and becomes a FA in 2013. I'm reading that Keppinger may be a type A arb guy.
