Well MLS just became the first sport to move all of its content to streaming only. The future is upon us my nerd mouthbreathing, Cheeto dust on your keyboard friends.
Kinda seems like this is going to not be the win they think it is. Casual fans, which is what MLS needs, aren't going to grow with this. I'm not signing up for *another* streaming service for MLS. Conversely, if the Blazers are reading this, I totally would pay 5 bucks a month for the Blazers games.
I think the Blazers should offer their own streaming service. Something like pay $5/month and you get all Blazers games no matter where you live.
Am I hearing right that on top of the monthly cost for apple tv, you have to pay another fee to watch the games? Or is that just fake news?
I heard a team is going to do this. (Red sox I think) and they are doing 30/month for 162 games. For 82 you'd be lucky if it was 20/month 5 a month is a joke when individual games are $2 a game minimum lol
I'd pay $2 per game for no delays, no blackouts. For sure. $3 per game if you allow me to skip commercials...
I like watching Timbers games. It’s relaxing. Great atmosphere. Problem is I can’t for the life of my figure out the scheduling. Like they play a couple times in a week then they go dark for weeks. Just checked. They last played May 28. Cancun?
I haven’t had a chance to follow much on MLS schedule this year. But there often is a week or two break to deal with players being away for International Duty. With World Cup qualifying and World Cup this year there probably is just more international breaks.
Agree MLS and the casual fans thing. But it’s kind of a Chicken or Egg thing. Much harder to attract level of players that gain more eyeballs. But need the $$$ to get the players. It’s been a balancing act for sure. And I haven’t read the money aspect if it. But really hoping it’s a significant bump I’m average salary, to invest in the player side.
Just a little perspective on this deal. Apple is paying MLS $250 million a year. ABC/ESPN will be paying just the SEC $300 million a year starting in 2024. Time Warner is paying the Lakers $150 million a year. The networks will be paying the NFL $9 billion a year starting in 2024.
Sorry. Put it here because with the Blazers deal coming up in a couple years, this might kinda tie in.
