when do we start getting serious and not wait for another team to make an offer? I'd guess we are waiting for the Crabbe situation to resolve today. I assume we want him back, although if we keep Crabbe I have to wonder about keeping Hark. Probably one or the other given Crabbes huge offer.

I love both hark and Crabbe but if I had to choose between the two I would choose Harkless. Bigger, longer, better defender, and more athletic. He is better in transition and I believe it is easier to find a shooter than a 6 ft 9 wing who can defend, aggressively attack the rim, and hit an open 3.

    I suspect Harkless is next.

I think they will try to get Harkless signed before they match so nobody can throw a toxic contract at him.

Yeah that's exactly my thoughts on it as well. See if we can sign harkless and Meyers then match if we plan on matching.

Yep, I love Mo as well. Crabbe, Harmless and Davis turned out be really nice surprises last year for the team. I see some in here are open to trading Davis. Plume would be gone before Davis.

I'll be surprised if we don't have this resolved today.

Please Neil give Hark 4/41 too. Or at least a multi year deal.

Without going really deep into the numbers it appears we have about $8.8 mil til we hit the luxury tax for this season. I think Harkless is probably $10-$12 for this season meaning we really wouldn't be diving to headlong into the tax... For now. Next season is a completely different story but I think I will not worry about that until say February at the earliest.

Hoping for around 10 million per year for Harkless.

I just posted this in the stickied Blazers Salary Cap Info thread:

Here are my current calcs for where the Blazers will be next year (2017-18):
    - Assumed CAP: $102,000,000
    - Assumed Tax Level: $122,000,000
    - Assumed CJ will get max contract
    - Assume Plumlee extension: $12,000,000

    Damian Lillard, $26,070,900
    CJ McCollum, $23,908,071 (max assumed)
    Allen Crabbe, $18,500,000
    Evan Turner, $17,131,148
    Mason Plumlee, $12,000,000 (assumed)
    Meyers Leonard, $9,904,494
    Al-Farouq Aminu, $7,319,035
    Festus Ezeli, $7,330,000
    Ed Davis, $6,352, 531
    Noah Vonleh, $3,505,233
    Shabazz Napier, $2,361,360
    Pat Connaughton, $1,014,746
    Jake Layman, $905,249
    Louis Montero, $1,014,756
    Mo Harkless, ?
    Anderson Varejao (waived-stretched), $1,984,005

    Total Salaries: $140,988,997

With the tax level at $122,000,000, the Blazers will be over the tax limit by $18,988,997. That will cause a tax penalty of:
    $7.5M (first $5M over) + $8.75M (second $5M over) + $12.5M (third $5M over) + $3.25 x $3,988,997 = $41.75M

By matching Crabbe's offer, we've essentially guaranteed we won't be bringing Plumlee and/or Harkless back in 2017-18, or a significant cost savings trade has to happen.

If Ezeli stays healthy, Plumlee might be the odd man out. If we have Davis/Ezeli and Aminu/Leonard Plumlee would be the 5th wheel.

There's more to it than just the tax $$ spent though. You start losing exceptions and stricter trade regulations kick in. But that's only a factor if the team is over the luxury tax 3 of 4 years.

So far, he's been avoiding it. I only think he'd do that if he thought the team was in prime position to conetend.
