I almost bought an Austin Healy. Can't remember the year it was. I almost bought it in 1967 from my old college roommate who needed the money for Med school. I was within a week of buying it when I got my draft notice saying I could either go in the Army or go to jail.

The car had a great body with no rust but it had a blown head gasket. My roommate even offered to help me fix it. Damn, still kick myself for not getting it. It was only $500.

Edit: Reason for not getting it was an invite from Uncle Sam to join the Army. Side note: Although I was expecting to go into the Army, I came within a whisker of getting drafted into the Marines. About 8 guys seated near me wound up in the Marines rather than the Army. Time was 1967, not a good time to be a ground pounding Marine.

That's funny, I also almost bought an Austin Healy for $500 back in the day. Body wasn't good but the engine was ok-ish, in my case.

The two guys on Wheeler Dealers made a similar AMC and sold it at a loss. I think it's the only car I've ever seen sold on that show where they lost money on the deal.

I actually have a question for you, if you'd answer I'd appreciate it.

What is your opinion on the Chevy Aveo 2004 - 2010?
I've done a bit of research myself and just curious on your opinion.
(no I'm not planning on buying one for myself.)

Tiny little car. Think they were made in Korea. Bare bones transportation that would be good for someone who lives and drives mostly downtown.

The 1/4 panel on a hatchback is about a foot wide from door to rear bumper. I wouldn't want anyone I love riding in the back of it.

I don't know the crash test ratings of them but just imagine a lifted 4wd with a big steel bumper rear ending you.

Eh a family member of mine who drives 80 miles minimum a day is looking at one.
I know just enough about cars to get me in trouble. So I'm going along with her to look at it.
But I'm not sure if I'm going to approve this car due to the size.
Good gas mileage, but as far as reliably/safety. I don' t know.

Pretty cheap I assume? Most newer cars minus newer shitty DCT ford focus are reliable give or take.

    Can she drive a stickshift?

Yeah she can drive a manual. We're going to look at it tomorrow 3500$ 06, 90k miles. It's a hatch & LT.
Her car right now is an 04 jetta, I don't have the time nor the patience to do routine/basic maintenance on a jetta. Fuck those cars I swear.
Only thing I found easy about that car is replacing the fuel pump. Rest of the shit is horseshit. The hoses.. screw those man.
I wasn't there when she purchased the Jetta 5 years ago, aint letting her buy junk again.
