: Final score : Hull 2 : 1 Newcastle Currently, Hull are showing that they're no pushovers at Saint James' Park. Some believe their success this match so far is due to the problems currently going on at the stadium with Newcastle's supporters, but Hull are just the better team right now. They came out the second half with not only the lead on a PK by Marlon King, but with brilliant all-around play. This helped them score a second goal quite early, another by King. Hull have a lot of energy this second half, which is what I loved about them when they were in the Championship and League 1. Only 15 minutes left to go. UPDATE: As if Newcastle weren't in a big enough hole, Guthrie will miss matches thanks to a red card deservedly given to him by blatantly attacking a Hull player not once, but twice! Newcastle lose this one at home 1 : 2 to Hull City.
I'm happy for Hull though. They deserve the win, if they can get away with it. N'Castle constantly attacking now.
Hello! Hello! We are the city boys Hello! Hello! We are the city boys And if you are a Leeds fan Surrender or you'll die We all follow the city Where are Leeds? Oh yeah, Leaque 1, haha!
haha lol. Not too good now a days are they, People call them a Past-super team but were they really? They got to the Semis of the Champions league. That was it. Not like Notts Forest, they did very well for ages under Clough and were a genuine super-team.
I agree, Max. Nottingham is still one of the best clubs in the World. Not in terms of their results over the past two decades, but their history is set in stone. They're coming back though and odds set by FourFourTwo have them creeping into the Premier League next season already. If they move up, I believe we can expect someone to make a purchase of the club or at least a better influx of new players coming in then most newly-promoted clubs. As for Leeds, I agree. They've never been much. They sold off their best players years ago and sunk into the dirt where they came from over in West Yorkshire.
Seriously? They were a top 4 team for a time. 1996-97: 1. ARSENAL 38 15 2 2 43 10 8 7 4 25 23 78 2. Manchester United 38 13 4 2 42 9 10 4 5 31 17 77 3. Liverpool 38 13 2 4 42 16 5 9 5 26 26 65 4. They were a top four club for three seasons and then began to sink. Look where they since 2002, League 1.
Yes, but you can't say they didn't make an impact on the EPL... Do you realize how hard it is to break the top 4? They have been the only team to do it since... Forever.
That would be Everton actually. Anyway, let's see since the Premier League in England began in 1992: Top four finishes by clubs through 16 seasons Manchester United (16) Arsenal (13) Liverpool (11) Chelsea (8) Newcastle United (5) Blackburn Rovers (3) Leeds United (3) Aston Villa (2) Everton (1) Norwich (1) Nottingham Forest (1) So my answer would be - not as difficult as you believe. Up until recently the Premier League hasn't been made up of the "big four." Newcastle has done more then Leeds and we all believe they're crap right now. At least they're not in League 1 though, yeah? Blackburn at least won the Premier League before and are, well, not in League 1. Nottingham Forest, though only making the top four once since the Premier League was created, at least have won the Champions League twice, Super Cup once and the first league (at the time) once. Leeds had their little era of enjoyable football, but then you look at what happened after their final season in the top half of the standings; after 2002 they went from finishing 5th to 15th in 2003 and the season afterward had already dropped to the Championship. That's quite a dive! Since then they've struggled to do anything of importance to make their supporters happy again. Almost as if they just caved in and said, "well, let's sell off our best players and go play in lower leagues for a few decades." Let's see if they can accomplish their goal.
That is not my point. Leeds came up from nothing, into a top 4 club in a matter of a few years. Nottingham did the same, but couldn't hold onto the top 4 position for more than a year. Newcastle have been in the Premier League for 15 years, so obviously they have had more chances to become a top 4 tier club. Leeds on the other hand had many domestic disputes, and went bankrupt (due to dropping from 4th to 15th in a year) so they sort of gave up. I just believe that Leeds should be recognized for their achievements, of being able to hold onto a top 4 spot for 4 years on the trot. Chelsea have only recently been in the top 4 too. They began to find a good rhythm during the Zola years, and built up the momentum. To add to that, they were bought out by that Russian guru.
