This will be my first time living through one of these since I've been down here. It's looking like it'll be a heavy one. Going to ride it out even though it is heading straight for me. Glad I'm not near any beaches, but there are predicting 12-16 inches of rain on tuesday. In my area.
Ive got friends who live in FL and they always tell me that Hurricanes arent as big of a deal as they’re made out to be. One caveat seems to be unless its like a direct hit to where you’re at, it can definitely do some damage. Anyways Stay safe!
IF THEY SAY TO EVACUATE THEN EVACUATE! My dad grew up in Cuba, lived through some hurricanes, said the scariest thing about them was when the corrugated tin roofing would get ripped off, it was like giant flying saw blades. Would rip right through things. Anyway, if they say to leave you need to leave. You or yours get hurt you are putting your life in danger and the lives of the first responders sent to help you.
I was part of a Storm team that worked Hurricanes Charlie & Francis, wow, what an experience and another reason I believe in the 2nd. There were gangs of roaming people stealing right and left and road side vendors raping/gouging people with unreal pricing on gen sets, water, etc. Some of the small surrounding towns had their own security possies armed to the hilt, as there were not enough National Guard to secure all areas. It very nice to see people pulling together in horrible events and conditions but it burns me to see those scavengers that want to take advantage of the situation. The do it to profit not because they are in need because there is plenty help. Punta Gorda was hit directly and demolished the hotelI was staying in up to evacuation towards Atlanta.
Well, having experienced first hand the Columbus Day storm, i would disagree with your friends in Florida unless they were far away. The devastation that storm did was massive and it wasn't near as strong as some of the hurricanes that the east coast and gulf area have gone through.
From what I've heard though, their architecture is in place to handle it for the most part. They see Hurricanes literally every year, some are worse than others, and some do quite a bit of damage. One friend lives in in-land about 50 miles from Daytona, the other lives in Miami, they both basically told me the same story.
Dipshit has already canceled a trip to Europe and declared a state of emergency for the state of Florida. If he didn’t own real estate there he only be sending T&Ps and would on AF1 lining up Polish hookers to piss on him.
Thanks. I'm on the gulf coast so I'm going to be fine. This city couldn't handle another major storm though.
