    IF....IF.....IF

If Carmelo Anthony was traded to our Blazers, where would he rank after next season (his first season in Blazers uni) on the ALL-TIME list of talented seasons by others in a Blazers uni?

I am only considering seasons by players who were wearing Blazers colors in this debate.

    1. Walton 1977-78 18.9 pts, 13.2 rbs, 5.0 asst pg MVP award
    2. Drexler 1988-89 27.2 pts, 7.9 rbs, 5.8 asst pg & 1991-92 25.0 pts, 6.6 rbs, 6.7 asst pg
** EDIT 3. Lillard 2016-17 27.0 pts, 4.9 rbs, 5.9 asst pg - I musta been crazy to forget him!
    4. Vandeweghe 1986-87 26.9 pts, 3.2 rbs, 2.8 asst pg
    5. Wicks 1971-72 24.5 pts, 11.5 rbs, 4.5 asst pg
    6. B Roy 2008-09 22.6 pts, 4.7 rbs, 5.1 asst pg

    *** Melo 2016-17 22.4 pts, 5.9 rbs, 2.9 asst pg

I say that IF he were to play near the level of last year with NYK, he would probably rank above former Blazers greats like Petrie, Paxson, Natt, Robinson, Wallace and Pippen. Did I forget someone? Do you disagree with my list?

    Debate it!!

He doesn't rank on the all-time list - he ranks 4th on the current roster.

I don't think it's worth trying to figure out where a (currently) average player ranks on an all-time list. Yes, his scoring average is pretty good, but he gets there with mediocre to sub-mediocre efficiency. And he mostly gives that inefficient scoring value back through terrible defense.

Blazers have had 5 players put up a PER of 24 or more.

    upload_2017-7-20_11-34-7.png

    6 seasons with WS/48 over .210

    upload_2017-7-20_11-35-13.png

9 seasons with a BPM above 6 (most of them Clyde)

    upload_2017-7-20_11-37-31.png

Melo's best seasons ever (12-13 & 13-14) had PERs of 24.8/24.4, WS/48 of 0.184/0.172, and BPM 2.4/3.6. Even on his best day, he doesn't measure up to the Blazers' franchise all-time top 5, let alone if he put up the 17.9 PER and -0.7 BPM he had last year.

Agree. And chances of him becoming a Trail Blazer seem rather slim. And we already have two threads about Melo.

Sorry to both of you. Didn't know there was a quota on thoughts or discussions regarding a player being discussed as a target. Didn't want to hijack the other (massive) thread for this specific purpose and different discussion. Thanks for your input. :hater:

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I wasn't telling you what to post. I was just giving my opinion that trying to figure out where a not-very-good Anthony would fit into the Blazers' all-time list is a waste of time. Somewhere in the middle of the list of all the players who ever played for the Blazers, IMO.

I guess a different way I could have said it is: I don't think Anthony would belong on an all-time list because he's not a very good player nowadays.

I thought the point of the OP is where we expect his performance to rank among other players' first year with the Blazers. Not, where does he rank all-time.

Edit: Well, gee, maybe I misread the OP, which is why I mentioned Kenny Anderson.

The Blazers have only had a few (5-8) players ever average over 20ppg for a season! Even in his "past his prime" status, Melo would be way, way up the list. As I showed in example in OP, he'd easily be top 10 all-time.

No harm from those that didn't want to exert the energy to think! I just was tired of talking about trade scenarios, and instead wanted to think about the potential he'd have on our team!!

Go back to post #5. Energy exerted. And no, 2017 Melo's season would not be close to a top-10-all-time Blazer season. Move past raw counting stats and "exert the energy" to look deeper into efficiency and impact. Melo's are both terrible.

Doesn't defend and is a volume shooter/scorer that likes to hold the ball and wait for a screen. Tell me how that's going to work out with Damian and CJ on the wing (who are already poor defenders and also need the ball in their hands a lot to be effective). There. I exerted some energy and gave you my thoughts that I've developed after watching this chucker play in the league for a decade. His impact on the team would be a net zero to slightly negative. That's it. That's all there is. We better get back to the never-ending Melo trade thread now.
