Now, WHY is it the All-Star Game has never been played in Portland?? Is it truly due to lack of luxury hotels???
...location, commerce, accomodations, etc, etc [as cool of a city as Portland is, it doesn't have the "draw" that other cities have]
What about sheer deservedness, though. I'd say, if the city is big enough to have an NBA team, they're certainly big enough to host an A-S game.....if only just once.
agreed. I have always wanted to go to an All-Star game. The Rose Garden is awesome, and I think someone who said they have been to a lot of the arenas, that it is better than a lot of others.
"Memphis, Portland, Sacramento, Oklahoma City, and Toronto are the only current NBA cities that have not yet hosted an NBA All-Star Game."
...don't get me wrong, I think it was would a great day in PDX if it happened [and yes, the city is more than deserving] but I just think there is not enough appeal. Especially with other major cities being so far away and all [then again, how did Seattle do while hosting the AS Game?!]
As someone much smarter than me said, "a princess liner tied about 500 yards from the RG should work very nicely."
All star weekends are overrated. When it was in LA, I went to the rookiegame/dunk contest/etc and the only reason I was able to go is one of my friends' boss' didn't want to go so blammo, free tix. Most of the tickets are swooped up by scalpers and corporations, even shitty tix are like 200 bucks. Even if it were in Portland, the chances of most of you actually going to the game is slim to none.
...that might work [maybe they can schedule Barnum & Bailey at the Memorial Coliseum for the same AS weekend as well...maybe even a car expo at The Convention Center...anything else???]!!!
There have been All-Star games in Cleveland, Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, Oakland which are all smaller population wise than Portland
Seriously, the city would go nutso. Plus, with the Sonics now gone, there would be a strong pull from our neighbors to the north.
