If Trump was the commissioner? Same for Clinton Rubio Cruz Or anyone else you would like to make the comparisons with. This election has me very confused. Help me understand how each candidate’s platform would work in the NBA. Example; Would Bernie want to pay all the players the same amount regardless of their skills and years in the league, but take home less, plus take money away from the team owners, and keep all that money to operate the league bureaucracy? Make the comparison with anyone you want, even if not running for President.
If Trump was running the NBA, @magnifier661 would probably be the Assistant Commissioner. All the teams that don't make the playoffs would be called Losers. The Toronto Raptors would not be able to play any road games, you know, because of that wall we built up north to keep them in their own country. Aminu would probably be subjected to "random" waterboarding. And if a player was going to get released by an NBA team, Trump would call the player up and say "you're fired." Make the NBA Great Again!
If Trump was the commissioner of the NBA, all of the players would be required to get cosmetic surgery instead of tattoos.
If Bernie were the Comish this would be much less interesting than if he were the King. If he were the Comish he might level the playing field where players are paid equally, perhaps by their years in the league. The salary Cap could be scrapped then because every team would have the nearly the same salary, NBA average X 15. Teams could only compete for players based on location desirability Of course he would need to have a panel with redistribution power to keep the cold small market teams competitive by forcing players to accept a two year assignment in the barrel. But hell, lets face it, the players Union would never go for this so Bernie as Comish would be not much different. Now if he were President (Democrat for King). his policies, especially his tax policy might actually have a very similar effect. The widely skewed salaries of today would not mean much to the players, since they would pay it all in taxes anyway. Income equality would vastly narrow the gap between the top players and end of the benchers. Damian might take home 3 or 4 times what Roberts does but neither would have enough to buy a new Tesla. PA's huge hoard cash would might not have the buying power it had in the past when you consider the after tax reality, but that is the Democratic Socialist way! Hell it will be damn near impossible for a PA replacement to emerge from the masses. Interesting thought, where would the NBA owners come from twenty years from now? Probably only government insiders could accumulate the wealth required, as masters of the contribution system. Yes Sir Bernie is on to something here, with this income equality. It should improve the hell out of our game when the Currie's, Lilliard's and Robert's all take home about the same as the Pacific Power lineman cleaning up after an El Nino storm. Yep if you guys elect Bernie and a Congress to back him, this is what we probably will get. Players Union won't have shit to say beyond bitching. But then PA's cash flow combined with his confiscated income will put him out of the game in short order, so I don't know who will even run the teams. Kohl was the only politician I can ever think of to run a team, and he sure didn't go for the win.
If Bernie was the commish, he'd be too busy being a cuck in the corner with his head down not fining or suspending players.
With Sanders as Commish all the players would dis him and call him an ancient squirrel. With Hillary they would be required to turn off their cell phones and mobile devices before and after a game. With Cruz, players would always work on Sunday and be required to eat cheap food. With Rubio all players would have top have his picture in their locker. With Trump no Tats, beads, dreads or rap allowed/ henceforth a communist league
Every city in the country would have a D league team making a living wage and the NBA would move all the teams to Texas and Florida by justifying their paycuts with tax breaks...the Portland Mavericks would come back to Portland and win the World Series on the independent ticket..
Pretty sure the league would fold quickly with any of them running it, with the exception of Trump. I really like the idea of Trump running the league. Bottom line, Adam Silver was a poor choice.
If Bernie were "Commish" the only things that would change: The lowest paid players would make more. The players would all collectively pay for their healthcare.
