    I think of Simons as a 2/1 and Trent as a 2/3.

In a vacuum, I'd like us to draft a 3/4 who can shoot! I don't think Jake is working out.

    What do you think?

When drafting this late in the first round I would always look for best player available regardless of position. If players are equal then I would lean towards a 4/3 type player, but that depends also on what the team plans on doing with Aminu. I also would rather trade the pick and try and get a veteran player of need.

Not really. GMs wisely tend to use tier drafting. The noise is too close to the signal in the draft, especially this late.

So, for purposes of this thread, assume that the draft tier contains all of the above possible player types.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
BPA. If there is a tier of players that are effectively "tied" when Portland drafts, then sure, a 3/4. That would be a cop-out to me, though--players might seem best suited to tiers to fans and amateurs, but the whole purpose of a GM is to pick the right guy among several prospects who are rated roughly the same by experts.

Especially when it comes to the NFL draft, I often see fans say something like, "There are four or five wide receiver prospects who are all roughly equal at the top of the second round, so just take the one that falls to the middle or end of the round rather than taking one at the top of the round." Just because several prospects seem roughly equal in publicly available evaluations doesn't mean they'll all have similar pro careers--obviously, they won't (barring some cosmic fluke). If you're valuing the GM role (and his scouting department), his job is to pick the right one out of that group, not any of them as though they're all just generic currency.

Maybe occasionally a couple of players might end up close to equal where you're selecting, in which case need makes a good tie-breaker. Otherwise, at any given slot, pick the guy available who you're evaluating to have the best professional potential.

Aside from the top-tier prospects there is no better fit than Grant Williams. He'd thrive under Stotts.

Shooting doesnt translate and isnt great to begin with. Not quick enough laterally to stay in front of perimeter players, not big enough to get stuff on his own inside or compete with bigger players in other apsects of the game, and isnt quick enough to create his own shot against perimeter players. No elite skills.

    No thanks.
