Storm Head to Wichita for Big One

The Sioux Falls Storm (5-1) will be on the road again this weekend traveling to Wichita to take on the Wild (5-1). The two teams will face off for their third and final meeting of the regular season at 7:05PM Saturday, April 17, at Hartman Arena.

The team that comes out of this match up victorious will hold the tie breaker if both teams finish the season with the same record. Sioux Falls will be headed to Wichita with payback in mind. The Wild gave the Storm a rare home loss at the Storm Shelter last time the two teams met.

"I am excited for such a big game and the chance to play another quality team," said Coach Riggs.

The Wild are coming off a 56-50 victory over the Omaha Beef. The win wasn't a pretty one with the Wild ending the night with nine penalties. The game was tied at 50 until late in the 4th quarter when Wichita safety, Dona Moore, knocked the ball loose from an Omaha receiver. Wild running back, Darius Pudge sealed the deal with a five-yard touchdown run.

Sioux Falls is coming off a very convincing 57-23 win over the Sioux City Bandits. James Jones finished the night with 84 yards rushing on 15 carries with 2 touchdowns. Lorenzo Brown stepped in late in the game and came up with 27 yards and 2 touchdowns. The upfront blocking by the Storm offensive line was impressive to say the least. Quarterback, Terrance Bryant, completed 15 of 21 passes for 161 yards and 3 touchdowns. His two favorite targets for the night were Dusty Havorka and James Terry. The "Thunder Defense" came up with two picks on the night, and only allowed the Bandits 3 points in entire second half. Blackburn lead in tackled with 6.5.

Storm fans that won't be making the long trip to Wichita are invited to Champps to catch the game live and cheer on the Storm with other fans. The game will be broadcast on KOOL 107.9 and streaming at www.siouxfallsstorm.com.

    GVSU Powers ThunderHawks Turnaround

Over the past four years, the West Michigan ThunderHawks professional indoor football team has gone through many changes. They have changed leagues, locations and even the name of the organization. One thing that has not changed, however, is the belief that some of the best talent in the country can be found in their own backyard at Grand Valley State University.

The Division II powerhouse, located in Allendale, capped off an amazing decade of dominance with yet another appearance in the national championship game last fall. Since 2001, the Lakers have made nine playoff appearances, leading to six title games and four NCAA crowns (2002, '03, '05, and '06). Over 20 former Lakers have appeared in a Muskegon Thunder/West Michigan ThunderHawks uniform since 2007 including current head coach Terry Foster (played at GVSU 1998-2001). The Detroit native, a three-time All-GLIAC defensive back, was on the 2001 GVSU squad that opened the floodgates of prosperity. He was hired as the defensive coordinator for the Thunder's inaugural campaign and also suited up as a player later that season. Mike Wilford, a two-time All-American (2001, '03) tackle at GVSU was one of the first players signed in '07 to anchor the Thunder's offensive line. He is now Foster's assistant head coach and line coordinator. Drew Burton, a three-time Lakers letterwinner (2003, '04, '06) followed suit, playing for the Thunder the last two seasons and joining the ThunderHawks' coaching staff in 2010 as offensive line coach/ run game coordinator and director of college and professional scouting. It's no surprise the Lakers have had three outstanding quarterbacks over the past decade and all have links to Michigan's only remaining indoor football team. Curt Anes, the 2002 Harlon Hill Trophy winner (Division II's equivalent of the Heisman Trophy), led the Lakers to their first title and now serves as the ThunderHawks co-offensive coordinator. Leading the IFL's top scoring unit in 2010 is Brad Iciek, the GLIAC's reigning Offensive Back of the Year for his stellar senior season last fall. Iciek is currently among the IFL's offensive leaders in several categories including first in passing yards per game. Cullen Finnerty, who guided GVSU to three titles in his four years as a starter, played for the Thunder in 2009. Former Lakers playing alongside Iciek this year are LB/DL Anthony Adams (All-American 2006, '07), K David Hendrix (All-American 2003), DB Corey Edwards (All-Conference 2008) and WR/DB Terry Mitchell (All-Conference 2006). Sean Stevens (All-Conference 2006, '07), who played with the Thunder in 2008 and '09, began the season with the ThunderHawks before moving on to the Cleveland Gladiators (AFL). Last year, K Scott Greene (All-American 2004) set an IFL record for most fields made in one game with seven (8 attempts), no small feat in the indoor game where goal posts are only 10 feet wide and arena ceilings can wreak havoc with trajectory. Another former Laker that holds a special honor with the Thunder is Brent Lesniak (All-Conference 1999, '01; 2nd in career all-purpose yards). The Dowagiac native has the distinction of scoring the indoor franchise's first-ever touchdown as the Thunder downed Summit County 42-21 on March 24, 2007. Lesniak played with Muskegon in 2007 and '09 and propelled the Kalamazoo Xplosion to the CIFL finals in '08. The list continues with former GVSU All-Americans Willie Gray (1999, '00, '03) Lucius Hawkins (2003, '04), Derrick Phillips (2003), DeJuanne Boone (2004) and Jonn Mathews (2008); Former All-Conference performers include Jacob Henige (2006, '07) and Preston Garris (2007). Rounding out the list are Courtney Partee, Alonzo Wilson and Jason Schmiedeknecht. Off to their best start in franchise history, the ThunderHawks (3-1) hope the Grand Valley State winning mystique and tradition will continue to rub off on their indoor squad. West Michigan will next play home at the DeltaPlex Arena on Saturday, April 17th versus the Green Bay Blizzard (5-1).

Extreme Defense Stifles Maniacs in Victory, 32-6

Linebacker Joe Bevis seemed stunned at first when a pass from opposing Quarterback Duane Smith landed in his arms, but he shortly shook off the surprise with a rumbling sprint between defenders towards the end zone, leading to the first touchdown of the game. This would be the first of five interceptions for the Bloomington Extreme (3-3) as they hosted the winless Maryland Maniacs (0-5) in a redemption match after a rough two-game losing streak. 3501 people were in attendance at U.S. Cellular Coliseum as the Extreme dismantled Maryland on both offense and defense, ensuring a sweet victory.

Rocky Hinds put together a victorious performance as he went 20-of-34 for 174 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Appearing as a starter for the second straight game, Hinds controlled the tempo of the game for an easy victory over an unstable Maryland squad. Charles Sullivan led the receiving core with seven catches for 64 yards and a touchdown.

Maryland Quarterback Duane Smith was not as fortunate, as all of his wide receivers seemed to have rubbed butter on their hands before the game. Smith went 10-of-36 for 93 yards and five interceptions. He was more effective on the ground as he traveled 69 yards on five carries and one touchdown. Maryland had dug them into a deep hole they were unable to crawl out of. Roderick Bryant showed his talent on the field as he caught seven passes for 73 yards, one of the few bright spots for the Maniacs.

Smith started the game with a great stroke of luck. The drive began with a quick 30-yard scramble by Smith, followed-up with a deflected pass that happened to land in the arms of Maryland Wide Receiver Raymond McCarter at the Extreme three yard line. With four downs to hold Maryland from scoring, the Extreme defense remained stiff, keeping the Maniacs out of the end zone and forcing a turnover on downs.

Rocky Hinds began the game with an impressive eight play drive, which included a 15 yard pass to a diving Charles Sullivan. However it would be Pete Christofilakos to put the first points on the board by nailing a 20-yard field goal, giving Bloomington an early 3-0 lead.

The Extreme secondary did not allow Smith to connect with and of his wide receivers on Maryland's second drive of the game. This led to a turnover on downs, placing the ball once more in the hands of Hinds. However a holding penalty put the brakes on this Extreme drive. On fourth down, Christofilakos found the space between the uprights with a field goal, increasing the lead, 6-0.

Maryland Wide Receivers had trouble catching the ball in the first half, which prompted Smith to use his feet more than his hands. Two lengthy scrambles by Smith brought Maryland to the Bloomington three yard line on their third drive of the game. Then with a quick third dash, Smith found pay dirt as he crossed the goal line. Because Maryland lacked a kicker for this game, they went for a two-point conversion, but Bloomington denied the opportunity, keeping the game tied, 6-6.

Bernard Payton's first carry of the game came on the Extreme's third drive, and it could not have come at a better time as the five yard run earned the Extreme a first down. Unfortunately that would be the Extreme's only first down of the drive. Christofilakos stayed golden as he hit his third straight field goal for 35 yards, putting Bloomington back on top, 9-6.

Smith had trouble finding his receivers all night, but with 2:50 to go in the second half, he had no problem finding Bloomington's Linebacker, Joe Bevis. Bevis returned the interception 23-yards and tumbled into the end zone for a touchdown, adding to the lead, 16-6.

Maryland would attempt to answer before the half ended, but a block-in-the-back penalty kept them away from a first down conversion. A turnover on downs with 1:07 left game Bloomington with enough time to march down the field as Hinds found Sullivan with a 10-yard pass in the end zone to cap the drive, 23-6. With :02 left in the half, Smith threw up a prayer, but the ball landed in the hands of Vincent Joseph, giving the Extreme their second interception and the lead at halftime.

Opening the second half, the Extreme smoothly approach the end zone, only for Hinds to fumble and loss the ball on the seven yard line. Jeff Sobol returned the favor on the next play by sacking Smith in his own end zone for a safety, putting two more points on the board for the Extreme, 25-6.

After receiving the ball from the safety, Hinds lost possession as a scuffle along the wall ended up in an interception for Maryland. The Extreme defense continued its stellar performance, forcing Smith to use his mobility and hurrying his throws. Another unsuccessful drive resulted in one more turnover on downs for the Maniacs.

A crucial fourth and five situation in the third quarter led to a great reception by Johnny Gray that breathed life into a faltering drive. Then from the Maryland nine yard line, Hinds connects with Gray in the end zone, bringing the score to 32-6.

The Extreme defense refused to quit adding to stat sheets, as BJ Brown pulls in his first interception of the game with 10:07 left in the fourth quarter. Payton followed that up by breaking through defenders with a 15-yard run. After earning a first down with only inches to spare, Hinds fumbled the snap and the ball was recovered by Maryland. But continuing with the trend of the game, James Temple snagged his first interception. The Extreme ran out the rest of the clock to end the game with a score of 32-6.

Next Friday, April 23, the Extreme travel to Rochester to face the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. in their first non-divisional road game of the season. This game will be broadcast live at Hooter's on Hershey Road in Bloomington, via the B2 Network.

Late Defensive Stand Leads To Roughnecks Win, 49-46

In an exciting back-and-forth battle on Saturday, April 17, the West Texas Roughnecks held one last defensive stand to seal a 49-46 win over the Austin Turfcats. The Roughnecks came back from being down as much as 17 points to win the ball game and improve to 2-4. Roughnecks defensive linemen James Vess held running back Keith Clay short on fourth down and goal to seal the win and help snap the Roughnecks four-game losing streak.

The Turfcats got on the board first with a 40-yard touchdown pass from QB Deron Ellis to WR Austin Willis. The Roughnecks countered with a 36-yard touchdown pass from QB Tommy Jones to WR Ryan Bugg to tie the game at seven. Austin regained the lead at 14-7 with a one-yard touchdown fun from Deron Ellis. The Roughnecks tied the game at 14 as WR Josh Floyd ran in a two-yard touchdown run.

Austin surged to a ten point advantage when Darren Brown added a field goal and LB Ryan Miles recovered a Tommy Jones fumble in the end-zone to give the Turfcats a 24-14 lead.

The Roughnecks cut the lead to 24-20 when Tommy Jones found WR Ryan Bugg for a 11-yard touchdown pass. The Turfcats extended their lead back to 30-20 when Ellis found Bobby Mason for a 13-yard touchdown pass. Austin took their largest lead of the night when Shon Mitchell returned a fumble back 49 yards for a score to give the Turfcats a 37-20. One of the big turning points of the game was Tommy Jones finding WR Steve Bergeski for a last-second 35-yard touchdown pass to make it 37-27 at halftime.

The Roughnecks took the momentum into the second half by cutting the lead to four as Tommy Jones found WR Nathaniel Dunn for a 19-yard touchdown pass, making it 37-33.

Following a Darren Brown field goal for Austin, the Roughnecks tied the game at 40 with a two-yard touchdown run by Josh Floyd. Austin regained the lead as RB Keith Clay punched in a three-yard touchdown run. The Roughnecks were forced back on defense following a Tommy Jones fumble, but DB Austin Smith intercepted Deron Ellis, returning it 50 yards for a score to tie the game at 46.

Roughnecks kicker Zeke Arevalo added a 28-yard field goal to give the Roughnecks the lead with under two minutes remaining at 49-46. The Roughnecks sealed the win as DL James Vess held Keith Clay short of the goal line on fourth down with 15 seconds remaining in regulation.

Maniacs lose to Extreme 32-6, Maniacs Drop to 0-5

After a long and memorable bus trip with an insufficient number of players available on their roster, the circumstances surrounding the team was too much for the Maniacs to overcome Saturday night in Bloomington as they continue their winless start to the 2010 season.

The Maniacs came into the game without a kicker, which really hamstrung their game plan, forcing the team to run or pass on fourth down plays (only one was converted all game) and attempt a two-point conversion after the team's only touchdown which came in the second quarter.

That sole touchdown came courtesy of a run by quarterback Duane Smith, who made his first start for the team after Bryson Spinner went down last weekend with a knee injury. It was a tough start for Smith. He was able to utilize his scrambling ability very well, starting off the game with a 25-yard run on the team's first play but he never was able to gain a rapport with his receivers. At times, Smith couldn't find open targets and when he did spot them, critical drops were made when passes were directed right in the receivers' chests.

Another problem for Maryland was penalties, which has plagued the team the last three games. This week, however, it was when the flags were thrown that set the team back.

A second quarter field goal was missed by Extreme kicker Peter Christofilakos but a penalty was called on Maryland, giving Bloomington an extra five yards and three points on the next attempt, breaking the 6-6 tie. Another instance came when defensive back Mike Hill intercepted a pass early in the fourth quarter and that play was called back as well, crushing any momentum the team hoped to gain from that point on.

An 0-5 start is certainly not what the team expected and the players and staff hope to get the situation back on the right track this Saturday night at the Richmond Revolution at 7 PM. The Maniacs previously faced the Revolution on March 20th and fell in a 23-18 decision.

For those who wish to attend the game, the Maniacs are providing a Maniacs fan bus to travel down to Richmond to see the team play the Revolution. Visit: http://www.marylandmaniacs.com/promos/ for more details!

Randall, Defense Combine to Beat Raiders

Typically Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia are rivals on and off the field, competing for players from across the state and wins against each other. This afternoon, two products from these schools combined to lead the Richmond Revolution to a dramatic victory on the road against the Rochester Raiders, 40-33.

Quarterback Bryan Randall (Virginia Tech) and RB Brandon Isaiah (UVA) combined to move the ball 45 yards over a period of 3:10 to take the lead 38-33 with only 11 seconds left on the clock. Isaiah had 5 carries for 28 yards in the final drive, taking some much needed time off of the clock, and Randall completed 2 passes to WR Antwun Williams (VSU) for 16 yards, including the clinching touchdown pass. The drive was capped off by a successful 2 point conversion to WR/QB Rodney Landers (JMU) to make the final score 40-33.

"I'm really glad our offense responded at the end of the game," said Revolution Head Coach Steve Criswell. "In the end you need to make plays to win the game and we did just that."

The Revolution got out to a quick 9-0 lead in the first quarter off a 23 yard field goal from K Chris Segaar (Va. Tech) and an 18 yard touchdown pass to Revolution newcomer WR Larry Williams (WVU).

The lead would change hands 6 more times throughout the game as the Raiders and Revolution traded punches throughout the second and third quarters. Segaar's second field goal pulled the Revolution to within 1 point with 4:28 remaining in the third quarter. A 12 yard touchdown run by Rochester's RB Jamil Porter put the Raiders up by their largest margin of the day, 33-25, capping off a 20 point quarter for the home team.

The Revolution defense made sure it was the last points that were scored against them, forcing three interceptions in the fourth quarter, shutting out the Raiders.

In a period of just over three minutes during the fourth quarter, the two teams traded interceptions twice with the Revolution's LB Louis Corum (Shepherd) and DB Demarcus James picking off Rochester QB Omar Baker, stalling Raider drives. James' interception was his IFL leading sixth of the season, and his third in the past 2 games. The Revolution defense would come up big once more during the fourth quarter, forcing the Raiders into a fourth and 5 at the Revolution 19 yard line, and then blocking the ensuing field goal attempt, sending it wide right.

The Revolution would take over at their own 5 yard line and use up almost the entire clock for their game winning drive. Randall's touchdown pass to Williams was his fifth of the game, and 25th of the season, moving him into second place in the league, next to 2009 IFL MVP Chris Dixon of the Billings Outlaws. Williams would pace the Revolution receiving corps, once again playing without WR Damon "Redd" Thompson, with 8 receptions for 63 yards and 3 touchdowns. Williams is tied for 5th in the league now with 9 touchdown receptions and has moved into the top 10 in receiving yards, with a total of 329, and receptions, with 28.

The Revolution return home next weekend, for a game with the 0-5 Maryland Maniacs. The game is Saturday April 24th at 7:05 PM. The tailgate festivities begin at 4:30 PM behind the Arthur Ashe Center. The first 1,000 fans receive a mini-football courtesy of Papa Johns Pizza. The team follows the home game with a three game road trip to West Michigan and Maryland, and then back to West Michigan.

West Michigan Hit by Unexpected Blizzard

Football is a game of inches. And seconds. Late in Saturday's Indoor Football League contest, the West Michigan ThunderHawks were just inches from the Green Bay Blizzard goal line, looking to break a 62-62 tie. The fourth-and-goal play, with just over a minute remaining in the game, turned disastrous for the hosts as quarterback Brad Iciek's (Grand Valley State) fumble was scooped up by the Blizzard's Tommy Phelps (Memphis) who promptly raced the length of the field for the go-ahead score.

Two plays later, Iciek zipped a 26-yard scoring toss to Bryan Pray (Pittsburgh State) to knot the score at 69-69 with 47 seconds left. Each of those 47 ticks seemed to take minutes to elapse, as the 2,100 in attendance at DeltaPlex Arena could not bear to watch as the Blizzard moved into position for a game-winning field goal attempt.

Green Bay, well within range for kicker Tino Amancio (Idaho), but out of timeouts, took a huge risk in throwing a short pass over the middle with 10 seconds remaining. Although the play was stopped shy of a first down, the clock stopped momentarily as the guests scrambled to the line of scrimmage to stop the clock. The delay allowed Blizzard quarterback Jake Phillips (William & Mary) to spike the ball with four seconds left. Amancio then converted a 30-yard field goal for a 72-69 lead with just one second left.

Robert Height III (Northwood) took the ensuing kickoff from his own 2-yard line and weaved his way all the way to the Green Bay 10 before he was hemmed in along the wall. Height then tried a desperation lateral that bounced on the turf and was eventually recovered by Green Bay's Kendale Rayford (Louisiana College) to end the exciting contest.

It looked as if the visitors would never be in position to win the game when they trailed 55-33 with less than eleven minutes left in the fourth quarter. But Phillips ran for one score and threw for three others down the stretch to help pull off the incredible comeback. Phillips ended the night 21-of-33 for 238 yards and six touchdowns with one interception and added 38 rushing yards on 10 rushes.

Both teams scored on their opening drives of the game as Iciek hit Nathan Fricke (Ferris State) with a 43-yard bomb and Phillips connected with Scott Burnoski (UW-La Crosse) from 22-yards out to tie the game 7-7 less than five minutes after the opening kickoff.

The two United Conference foes then traded a trio of three-pointers. An interception by Green Bay's Darius Jones (Wisconsin) set up an Amancio 29-yard field goal, which was quickly answered by West Michigan's David Hendrix (Grand Valley State), who booted a 25-yarder through the uprights. Amancio closed out the first quarter scoring with a 22-yard make that gave the Blizzard a 13-10 lead.

West Michigan (3-2) went back to the air as Iciek, leading the IFL in passing yards per game, found Emmanuel Spann (Marshall) behind the defense for a 39-yard score on the first play of the second quarter as the hosts went back in front, 17-13.

Green Bay (6-1) drove deep into enemy territory again on their next drive, but again stalled as Amancio was summoned for another try. This time, however, ThunderHawks defensive lineman Anthony Adams (Grand Valley State) blocked the kick, sparking a West Michigan scoring spree.

It didn't take long for Iciek to capitalize on the momentum swing as he hit Pray for a 31-yard scoring strike two plays later, increasing the advantage to 24-13. The fireworks continued as James Skodak (Ferris State) picked off a Phillips pass and returned it 46 yards for a touchdown less than a minute later and the lead had ballooned to 31-13 at the 7:37 mark.

Phillips then led the Blizzard on a 4-play, 28-yard drive that ended in an 11-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Robinson (UTEP). That score was answered by another Iciek-to-Pray (17 yards) pass play 2:31 before halftime.

Green Bay, still showing plenty of fight, marched methodically down the field as intermission approached. Daniel Robinson again worked himself open as Phillips fired him the ball for a 21-yard touchdown, pulling the Blizzard to within 38-27. The only problem was the visitors left way too much time on the clock (36 seconds) for the potent ThunderHawks attack.

After a short completion to Pray and a spike to stop the clock, Iciek went vertical with a 34-yard heave that Spann caught against the end zone wall as West Michigan headed to the locker room with an impressive 45-27 lead. The hosts had a 233-127 advantage in total offense despite 6 fewer snaps in the opening 30 minutes of play.

The home team was not content with the lead and head coach Terry Foster called for an onside kick to begin the second half. The ThunderHawks recovered, but a botched snap killed the drive as the Blizzard dodged a bullet.

Green Bay came back with a smash-mouth drive that would have made Vince Lombardi proud. Phillips and running back Randy Bell (Carson Newman) alternated rushing attempts with Bell finishing off the possession with a 2-yard burst. The 6-play, run-only drive covered 29 yards and took 4:50 off the clock as the Blizzard pulled within 45-33 after a missed P.A.T.

West Michigan needed only two snaps to respond as Iciek made an option pitch out to Spann who crossed the goal line from 2-yards out. The quick-strike offense, raising the lead to 52-33, pleased the home crowd, but meant the ThunderHawks defense was spending more and more time on the field and getting less and less rest between drives.

The next Green Bay possession put more pressure on their defensive opponents. They held the ball for another four minutes, but the drive ended when Phillips, trying to stretch for a first down, was stripped of the ball by West Michigan's Amp Boone (Arkansas-Pine Bluff). That turnover led to a Hendrix 26-yard field goal as the ThunderHawks had their biggest lead of the night, 55-33, through three quarters of play.

The Blizzard was about to hit town. Green Bay unleashed a 39-point barrage over the final 15 minutes that left the ThunderHawks, and their supporters, looking skyward for answers.

Phillips started the rally with a 1-yard keeper, cutting the deficit to 55-41 after Rayford, holding for Amancio, took a low, hard-to-handle snap and scampered in for a two-point conversion. The Blizzard then recovered their own onside kickoff, and eventually got another Phillips-to-Robinson hook up (15 yards), and suddenly it was a one-possession game at 55-48 with 8:30 remaining.

Iciek tried to rally the troops, but his off-balance throw under pressure was intercepted by linebacker Maurice Simpkins (Coastal Carolina). Simpkins, the leading tackler in the IFL, single-handedly made big plays all night. Literally. He played the game with a large, club-like cast on his left hand and finished with a team-high nine stops.

Phillips found Robinson yet again for a game-tying touchdown pass covering 22 yards with 6:09 left in regulation.

West Michigan then went to their do-it-all threat Height, who entered the night ranked second in the league in all-purpose yardage. Iciek's 22-yard toss to Height temporarily put the ThunderHawks back in front, 62-55. Just over a minute later, Phillips hit Patrick Rouzard (Northern Michigan) for a 6-yard score and it was tied for the fourth time at 62-62, setting up the big defensive play from Phelps and the nail-biting finish.

The two teams combined for 660 yards of offense with West Michigan totaling 337 (only 3 rushing), and Green Bay gaining 323 (85 rushing). The Blizzard's ‘take-what-they-give-us' offense ran 15 more plays (55-40) from scrimmage.

Iciek finished with seven touchdown passes, giving him 21 in four starts. He hit 16-of-26 for 338 yards and had two interceptions. Pray led all receivers with six grabs for 104 yards and three scores. Spann (4-104-2), Fricke (3-94-1) and Height (3-36-1) also contributed to the big offensive output.

ThunderHawks linebacker Doug Emery (Ferris State) added to his team-leading tackle total with a whopping 20 involvements on the evening, including 1.5 for loss and a pass break up. Boone made 10 stops while Skodak and Corey Edwards (Grand Valley State) each chipped in 5 tackles apiece. Hendrix posted 15 points (55 on the season), hitting all 9 point-after kicks and two field goals.

Green Bay's offense was buoyed by Robinson's big receiving night (5-92-4) along with Rouzard (5-45-1) and Burnoski (3-34-1). Bell added 112 all-purpose yards with 50 receiving (5 catches), 47 rushing (12 attempts) and 15 on one kick return. B.J. Hill (Ball State) gave the Blizzard good field position all night with 167 return yards on 9 runbacks.

Along with Simpkins, David Jones (Kentucky) and Roger Brown (Delaware) paced the defense with 6 tackles each. Amancio's memorable night was good for 16 points as he connected on 7-of-8 P.A.T.'s and 3-of-5 field goals.

Green Bay, winners of five straight, now head home after three straight road games. They will host Omaha (2-3) at the Resch Center on Saturday, April 24th. After suffering their first home loss of the season, West Michigan will travel to La Crosse (0-6) to take on the Spartans on Friday, April 23rd.

Colorado Ice Fall to The Amarillo Venom 37-56

The Colorado Ice started fast with a one play touchdown which snowballed to matching touchdowns throughout the first half of play. Ice quarterback Sherard Ellis (15) threw to three receivers and ran the ball in for a touchdown towards the end of the first half.

The Ice stopped the Venom from scoring in the last seconds of the first half sending the Ice players to the locker room feeling confident and the Venom looking to strike once they came out for the second half.

The second half was all Amarillo Venom football with flags flying throughout the half the Ice scored only 8 points to the Venoms 35 points. With the Ice putting in backup quarterback David Knighton (5) in his first IFL game the Ice struggled to put a scoring drive together.

Bobby Purify (13) was able to bring down two touchdowns, one from each of the Ice quarterbacks and a total of 51 receiving yards and 22 rushing. Cory Sleeth (4) had the most receiving yards with 62 on the day and 1 touchdown.

The Colorado Ice (0-5) will travel to Amarillo (5-0) to face the Venom at home on April 24th.

Predators Win Third In A Row, Even Record At 3-3

The Kent Predators have proven lately that chemistry isn't just a class you take in high school. After beginning the season 0-3 and struggling to find their identity, this team has unified, jelled, and found that chemistry needed to make a serious run at an Indoor Football League title. On Sunday, the team welcomed the Tri-Cities Fever to the ShoWare Center for a rematch of their March 27th battle that got Kent their first win in team history. The home team did not disappoint, downing the Fever 55-33 for their third consecutive win.

The Fever opened the scoring just 1:20 into the contest as Quarterback Andy Collins hit Thyron Lewis for a 23 yard scoring strike. Then the Predators took over. The human highlight reel known as Quarterback Charles McCullum, began the scoring by driving the team 40 yards down field, capped off by a ten yard scoring strike to receiver Eric Taylor. On their next possession Taylor turned a short pass into a 34 yard touchdown as fellow teammate Andre Jordan laid a crushing backside block to spring him loose for the score. The half culminated with Kent's third straight touchdown as McCullum leapfrogged over a defender and into the endzone for a four yard rushing touchdown.

Even with a 21-7 halftime lead the Predators did not let up on the pressure in the second half. McCullum hit Taylor for his third touchdown catch via a 39 yard bomb, and proceeded to hit Jordan, Travis Poole, and Carlo Heard for additional scores in the half. The defense even got in on the action late in the game, as the Fever were attempting a comeback. Defensive back Jeremiah Captain intercepted a Collins pass at mid-field and raced 25 yards untouched for a touchdown and the eventual nail in the Fever's coffin.

The win gets the Predators back to .500 and has them sitting just one game behind the Fairbanks Grizzlies for second place in the Pacific North Division. The team now must travel to Chicago next weekend to face their first non-division opponent of the season. The Slaughter have won two straight games after also beginning the year 0-3 and are slowly rising up the Central North standings. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on Saturday April 24th. Those wishing to watch the game can log onto www.b2livetv.com and purchase a season or individual game pass. The Predators return home Friday, April 30th for a rematch against the Division leading Billings Outlaws. Tickets for that game are still available, but are running out fast! They can be purchased by logging on to the Predators website at www.kentpredators.com. Discounts are available for groups of ten or more by calling the team office at 253-239-3254

Game Notes: McCullum finished the evening 12 of 18 passing for 198 yards and six touchdowns to go along with his 61 rushing yards on 18 attempts and one score...Taylor hauled in six passes for 104 yards and three scores...DL John Fields was credited with two sacks for combined losses of 11 yards...Captain's interception was his first of the year, and the teams first defensive touchdown in team history...Collins was 11 for 24 passing for 140 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions...Tri-Cities DL Derek Nicholson finished the game with 7.5 total tackles and one sack.

West Texas Roughnecks Reacquire Former Abilene Ruff Riders DL Fred Thrweatt

The West Texas Roughnecks announced on Monday, April 19, that the team has re-signed former Abilene Ruff Riders defensive linemen Fred Thrweatt. Thrweatt (6'3", 395 lbs.) returns for his third stint with the Roughnecks organization after spending the 2009 season and the early portions of the 2010 season with the Abilene Ruff Riders. Before joining the Roughnecks, Thrweatt ranked eighth on the Ruff Riders roster with nine total tackles in four games played in 2010. In 2009, Thrweatt posted 12.5 total tackles with two tackles-for-loss, three sacks, five pass break-ups and one fumble recovery in ten games played for the Ruff Riders.

"We are very excited to have Fred back with the Roughnecks. He is an experienced veteran at the IFL level and his addition gives us depth at the defensive line. He has the ability to provide pressure on the quarterback and he is an excellent run-stopper." stated West Texas Roughnecks Head Coach Chris Williams.

Fred_Thrweatt.jpgThrweatt played a key role on the defensive line for the Roughnecks back in 2007 and 2008. Thrweatt helped the Roughnecks post a 7-7 record including a playoff berth in 2008 by supplying pressure in the pocket and finishing in the top ten on the Roughnecks roster in tackles-for-loss. Thrweatt finished in the top fifteen in total tackles for the Roughnecks back in 2007, helping the club finish 8-6 as part of the Intense Football League.

Thrweatt played collegiately at Texas Tech University from 2002-2005. Thrweatt finished his career at Texas Tech with 72 total tackles and three sacks. He was considered an NFL prospect following the 2005 season and was rated as one of the top 50 defensive linemen prospects following his collegiate career.

Thrweatt is a local product out of Midland Lee High School where he played a key role on two state championship teams for the Rebels. Before coming to the Roughnecks in 2007, Thrweatt spent the 2006 season with the CenTex Barracudas, formerly of the Intense Football League.

Indoor Football League Week Eight Recap

The eighth weekend of the Indoor Football League marks the midway point of the 2010 season. Eleven league games were highlighted including the IFL Game of the Week which featured a battle for first place in the Lonestar East Division between the Arkansas Diamonds and the San Angelo Stampede Express. After a successful first half, the IFL is poised to continue to provide exciting entertainment for all fans during the homestretch which includes the upcoming playoff race and all the postseason drama and heroics.

Week Eight began on Saturday night with a bang as the Green Bay Blizzard (6-1) squeaked out a 72-69 win over the host West Michigan ThunderHawks (3-2). The ThunderHawks were in the driver's seat for much of the game as they took a 55-33 lead into the fourth quarter. That's when Green Bay QB Jake Phillips took over. In the final quarter, Phillips threw 3 TD passes and ran for another to lead the comeback rally for the Blizzard. With one second remaining on the clock and the score tied at 69 apiece, Green Bay Kicker Tino Amancio drilled a 22 yard field goal to seal the come from behind victory. This was truly a quarterback duel as Phillips and his counterpart, ThunderHawks signal caller Brad Iciek, combined to throw for 576 yards and 13 TD's (Phillips 21-33 238 6 TD's, Iciek 16-26 338 7 TD's). Both teams will be back in action next week as the ThunderHawks head to Wisconsin to play the La Crosse Spartans and the Blizzard host the Omaha Beef.

The Billings Outlaws (5-1) continued to display their dominance in 2010 as they defeated the Alaska Wild (2-4) 65-25. The Outlaws took a 29-13 lead into halftime and never looked back as their offense was running on all cylinders for the second week in a row. QB Chris Dixon was once again leading the charge as he tossed 6 TD passes and added another on the ground. Dixon distributed the wealth among all his receivers as DeAngelo Woodie, James Walton, and Antuan Bloom hauled in 2 TD passes each. Both teams will be on the road against Pacific North Division opponents next week as the Outlaws travel to face the Tri-Cities Fever and the Wild visit state rivals the Fairbanks Grizzlies.

The Abilene Ruff Riders (1-5) got into the win column for the first time in 2010 with a 48-31 victory over the Corpus Christi Hammerheads (2-5). DL Vincent Rhodes scored twice as he led an opportunistic Ruff Rider special teams and defensive unit which propelled the team to victory. In the first quarter of play, a Hammerheads field goal attempt was blocked by Ruff Riders' LB Zach East and recovered by Rhodes who returned it 40 yards for a TD. On the ensuing Hammerheads possession, Rhodes again found the end zone as he picked off John De Los Santos' pass and returned it 4 yards for the score. The Hammerheads have now lost four straight. Both teams will return to action next week as the Hammerheads look to rebound in Austin against the Turfcats and the Ruff Riders host the Arkansas Diamonds.

In the third match-up this year between Central West Division rivals, the Sioux Falls Storm (6-1) defeated the Wichita Wild (5-2) 34-27 in another IFL classic. Two of the better teams and defenses in the league were on full display as both offensive combined to produce only 354 yards. Wild RB Darius Fudge was held to only 10 yards rushing on 8 attempts while Storm QB Terrance Bryant was limited to 121 yards passing. The Wild took a 20-12 lead into the final quarter only to see the Storm battle back and pull out the victory. The win puts the Storm in sole possession of the extremely competitive Central West Division. Both teams will have some time to regroup over a bye week to prepare for the second playoff push.

In the IFL Game of the Week, the Arkansas Diamonds (5-1) defeated the San Angelo Stampede Express (4-2) 23-10 to claim sole possession of first place in the Lonestar East Division. The Diamond's number one ranked defense was back at it again on Saturday evening as they imposed their will on the Stampede Express. The Diamonds limited the Stampede Express to 128 yards of total offense including holding the second leading rusher in the IFL, Derrick Ross, to only 11 yards rushing. DL Luis Vasquez tallied 8 tackles and another sack to increase his number on the year to 6.5 (2nd in the IFL). The Stampede Express will look to rebound next week against the West Texas Roughnecks while the Diamonds will look to stay atop the division when they travel to play the Abilene Ruff Riders.

The Bloomington Extreme (3-3) bounced back from a heartbreaking loss in Week Seven to the Chicago Slaughter with a punishing 32-6 victory over the Maryland Maniacs (0-5). The Extreme silenced the Maniacs offense to the tone of 154 total yards and forced 5 turnovers. One of the turnovers, an interception, was returned 18 yards for a touchdown by LB Joe Bevis. The Extreme's suffocating defense put every team in the United Conference on notice that Bloomington will be around come playoff time. Both teams will resume play next week as the Maniacs continue to search for their first win in 2010 when they travel to the Atlantic East Division leading Richmond Revolution. The Extreme will also be on the road as they visit the Rochester Raiders.

The final game on Saturday saw the West Texas Roughnecks (2-4) earn their second victory on the season edging the Austin Turfcats (2-3), 49-46. The game went down to the wire but the Roughnecks were able to pull out the victory thanks to a 20 yard field by Zeke Arevalo with 1:35 remaining in the contest. Roughnecks QB Tommy Jones turned in his best performance of the season as he threw for 225 yards and 4 TD's. Both teams will be at home next week as the Turfcats host the Corpus Christi Hammerheads and the Roughnecks host the San Angelo Stampede Express.

IFL play resumed Sunday as the Amarillo Venom (5-0) remained undefeated with an impressive 56-37 victory over the Colorado Ice (0-6). Not much more can be said about the season that QB Julian Reese is having for the Venom. Reese completed 20-27 passes for 182 yards and 5 TD's. He has been amazing efficient this season, throwing only one interception, and sports the best quarterback rating in the IFL, 138.9. He hooked up with his favorite target WR DeVaughn Flagler seven times in the game for 82 yards including 3 TD's. The Ice continue to struggle in 2010 as they are one of 3 teams still in search of their first victory. The Ice will have a chance for revenge this weekend as they travel to take on the Venom in Amarillo for a Week Nine rematch.

The Sioux City Bandits were able to even their record to 3-3 with a 28-20 victory over the winless La Crosse Spartans (0-6). This was a defensive slugfest as neither offense was able to get into any kind of rhythm. The teams combined for only 288 total yards of offense. Each week the Spartans inch closer to earning the franchise's first ever victory. They will have another crack at it in Week Nine when they host the West Michigan ThunderHawks. The Bandits will have a bye.

The Kent Predators (3-3) are starting to gain some momentum as they won their third game in a row, defeating the Tri-Cities Fever (1-4), 55-33. The Predators had standouts on both sides of the ball. QB Charles McCullum continued to display his dual threat ability has he completed 12 of 18 passes for 198 yards and 6 TD's while rushing for 61 yards on 18 carries and another TD. DL John Fields racked up 2 sacks to place himself as the league leader in the category on the season with 7. The Fever will look to improve this week when they host defending champions the Billings Outlaws while the Predators will travel to the "Windy City" to take on the Chicago Slaughter.

In the final game on the Week Eight schedule the Richmond Revolution (5-1) remained on top of the Atlantic East Division with a 40-33 hard fought victory over the Rochester Raiders (3-3). In a back and forth game, QB Bryan Randall and the Revolution defense sparked the victory. Randall tossed 5 TD passes, 3 of which WR Antwun Williams was on the receiving end of. The Revolution defense intercepted 4 passes including one by DB Demarcus James who leads the IFL with six on the season. Rochester will look to rebound next week when they host the Bloomington Extreme while the Revolution look to stay on top when they host the winless Maryland Maniacs.

Week Eight Vidswap.com IFL Players of the Week will be announced on Wednesday. The IFL season will continue with Week Nine on Friday April 23rdwhen the Bloomington Extreme travel to play the Rochester Raiders and the West Michigan ThunderHawks travel to face the La Crosse Spartans.

Raiders Dominate Extreme From Start to Finish, 56-41

The Extreme defense that held Maryland to six points last week was nowhere to be found this week as the Rochester Raiders? offensive put together a potent attack in a 56-41 victory over Bloomington at the Dome Arena Friday night.

Raider (4-3) running back Jamil Porter scored four touchdowns, while wide receiver Kevin Concepcion caught three touchdowns to lead Rochester. Extreme (3-4) Wide receiver Charles Sullivan caught three touchdowns to lead Bloomington.

It did not take long for Rochester to put some points on the board as Porter took it in from two-yards out on their third play of the game to make it 7-0. On the Extreme?s ensuing drive however, kicker Peter Christofilakos booted a 35-yard field goal to cut the Raider lead to 7-3. That is as close as the Extreme would get as touchdown receptions by Raider wide receivers Conception and Chris Carter made it 20-3 to end the first quarter.

With 12 seconds remaining in the half, Porter caught screen pass and took it 40 yards as time expired for a touchdown as Rochester went into halftime with a 37-13 lead.

The Extreme looked to get back into the game on their second play of the second half as quarterback Rocky Hinds snuck one in from one-yard out to cut the lead to 37-20. However on their ensuing drive, Porter once again found the end zone, this time a five-yard run to make it 44-20.

Conception caught his third touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter to build a commanding 56-27 lead. Late touchdown receptions by Sullivan and wide receiver Ottis Lewis cut the deficit to 56-41.

The Extreme will play the final of their two-game road trip when they travel to Omaha, Neb., to take on the Omaha Beef next Saturday. Kick-off is set for 7:05 p.m.

Spartans Nipped In Last Minute By ThunderHawks

After weeks of lackluster play on the offensive side of the ball, the La Crosse Spartans put in the performance they have sorely been lacking. Some big additions at the skill positions this week translated into the teams best offensive performance of the season as the offense exploded for 58 points. In a back and forth battle of lead exchanges the Spartans were even in position for their first victory with under a minute left, however the West Michigan Thunderhawks were able to drive down the field quickly for a game winning score with 24 seconds left in the contest.

To the Spartans delight, the Thunderhawks cut Quarterback Buddy Rivera in favor of Brad Iciek earlier in the week, and La Crosse quickly scooped him up. His presence in this game surely jump started an offense that ranked among the lowest in the IFL in total production. The bright signal caller learned the offense quickly and ran the game plan to perfection. By putting the ball in the hands of star running back Mark Bonds, who ran in for two first have scores, and completing a long 40 touchdown pass to another newcomer in Wide Receiver Aaron Straiten, the Spartans took a 29-28 lead into halftime.

The game plan didn't change much in the second half, as the Thunderhawks struggled to bring down Bonds. Mixed with raw power and agility, the La Crosse running back found the endzone three more times for a season high five rushing touchdowns. However, Iciek for the Thunderhawks was just as impressive. He continually found open receivers and had six touchdown passes by the middle of the fourth quarter. The two teams continued to trade scores, and after Bonds fifth touchdown the scoreboard read 58-57 Spartans with 34 seconds left to play. The Spartans kickoff was returned beyond mid-field setting up a chance for Iciek to be a hero. He pulled through, throwing the eventual game winning touchdown pass 20 yards, his seventh, to receiver Bryan Pray.

The loss lowers the Spartans record to 0-7 on the season, but the improved offense has the team and coaching staff optimistic going into the second half of the season. The team now gears up for their fifth straight home game of the month next Friday against the Chicago Sluaghter. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased via the La Crosse Spartans website, www.lacrossespartans.com, or at the La Crosse Center box office. Discounted group tickets are also available by calling the team office at 608-567-4299

Game Notes: Bonds finished the night with 15 carries for 96 yards and five touchdowns...Rivera completed 13 of 20 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns...In his first game as a Spartan, Straiten caught 5 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown...Hawks QB Iciek completed 28 of 38 passes for 313 yards and sevon touchdowns...Pray caught 11 balls for 152 yards and three touchdowns.

ThunderHawks Claim First Ifl Road Victory

West Michigan ThunderHawks games are not for the weak of heart. Friday night's 65-58 victory over the La Crosse Spartans in Indoor Football League action was another thrill-a-minute roller coaster ride that kept fans on the edge of their seats, players on their toes and coaches on the verge of nervous breakdowns. The road win was the first in nine tries abroad for the ThunderHawks, dating back to last season.

The see-saw affair saw plenty of momentum swings, but emotions finally reached a boiling point just after West Michigan (4-2) had taken a 64-58 lead with 23.8 seconds remaining. The ensuing kickoff skipped down the middle of the field until Darnell Terrell (Missouri) fell on the ball at his own 7-yard line. As he hesitated a moment, officials blew the play dead, although Terrell had not been touched by a defender.

Spartans Head Coach Gilbert Brown, of Green Bay Packers fame, argued vehemently that the play should have continued, allowing Terrell to regain his feet and return the kickoff until tackled. At one point, a flag was thrown amidst all the shouting as it appeared Brown and La Crosse (0-7) would be penalized for their escalating objections.

Instead, officials declared the play a "do-over", forcing the visitors to rekick the ball from their own goal line. To make things even more bizarre, 28.3 seconds were put back on the clock, instead of the original 23.8 left when the bickering began.

On the restart, kicker David Hendrix (Grand Valley State) squibbed a kick that rolled all the way to the back of the Spartans' end zone. La Crosse was unable to return the ball across their goal line so a single point, or Rouge, was awarded to West Michigan, giving them a 65-58 lead with 28.3 still on the clock.

La Crosse then got the ball at their own 5-yard line with a chance to tie or go-ahead with a last-second score. After a pair of incomplete passes and a loss of down for throwing beyond the line of scrimmage, Spartan quarterback Buddy Rivera's (Northern Michigan) final heave hit the La Crosse Center scoreboard. The loud thud silenced the raucous crowd, which had been desperately cheering for their team's first victory of the season.

The wild game featured 677 yards of combined offense, 15 touchdowns, 8 lead changes and 3 safeties. There were 9 scoring plays of 20 yards or more and the chain gang was busy as 35 first downs were recorded between the two United Conference combatants.

West Michigan's prodigious point-a-minute offense, ranked third in the 25-team IFL entering this weekend's games, scored over 50 points for the fifth time in six outings. Quarterback Brad Iciek (Grand Valley State) was again in top-notch form, firing the ball with a deft touch to a stable of spectacular, play-making receivers.

Emmanuel Spann (Marshall) was first to act, hauling in a 29-yard strike from Iciek less than a minute into the game as the fans were just settling into their seats.

Rivera, released this week by the ThunderHawks, was eager to punish his former team, but instead, found himself fumbling away the Spartans' first two possessions of the game. West Michigan failed to take advantage of the miscues, however, as they missed one field goal and had another blocked for a safety by La Crosse's Xzavie Jackson (Missouri).

La Crosse then coughed up the ball yet a third time, but a fortuitous bounce allowed Antonio Overstreet (Southern University) to recover teammate Mark Bonds' (Western Michigan) fumble in the ThunderHawks' end zone for a touchdown and a 9-7 lead.

The crowd was still celebrating when, one play later, Iciek hit a sprinting Nathan Fricke (Ferris State) in stride for a 30-yard touchdown pass and 14-9 advantage as the opening quarter expired.

Bonds made amends for his earlier blunder by bulling in from 2 yards out at the 13:53 mark, restoring the Spartans 2-point edge. Terrell then intercepted Iciek, but Rivera's rocky start continued on the following snap as he was chased from the pocket and tackled for a safety by Rondell Biggs (Michigan) to tie the score 16-16.

West Michigan twice drove deep into Spartans territory, but settled for a pair of field goals from Hendrix, both 17 yards in length, to stretch the lead to 22-16 two minutes before intermission.

Rivera then began to find his rhythm. After a pair of completions, he darted 10 yards on a quarterback draw to pull La Crosse even at 22-22 as Spartan kicker Joseph Mootz (UW-Oshkosh) missed the point-after try.

Iciek then hit his favorite target, Bryan Pray (Pittsburgh State), for a 21-yard score but Hendrix also sailed his kick wide, leaving the score at 28-22. Rivera wasn't quite ready to head to the locker room, spiraling a 40-yard bomb to Aaron Straiten (UNLV) as La Crosse, averaging just 20 points-per-game this season, headed off the field with an improbable 29-28 halftime lead.

The hosts maintained their momentum in the second half as Bonds bowled his way through the ThunderHawks' defense for a 12-yard scoring run that upped the lead to 36-28.

With all the scoring going on, and yet to come, it would be easy to overlook the importance of West Michigan's next drive. The possession was crucial, however, to keep from falling further behind and not adding more fuel to the frenetic fans' fervor.

Facing a 2nd-and-33 from their own 3 yard line, Iciek zipped a pass to Pray for 22 yards to midfield. On 3rd-and-11, Iciek again looked to Pray, who made a diving, finger-tip catch over the middle to pick up a first down. Two plays later, Iciek completed the 9-play drive with a perfect 10-yard floater to Spann in the corner of the end zone and the ThunderHawks were within one.

The drive, which ate 6:06 off the clock, also inspired the West Michigan defense, which promptly came out and got after their former teammate Rivera. On first down, Joel Reaves (South Carolina) and Anthony Adams (Grand Valley State) combined for a sack and on second down, it was a jarring hit from Doug Emery (Ferris State) that separated Rivera from the ball, which rolled into the Spartans' own end zone. La Crosse's Christopher Headd made the recovery but couldn't advance the ball as Adams made the tackle for a safety and West Michigan had restored front-runner status at 37-36.

The guests ran their string of points to 16 when Iciek and Fricke combined for a 23-yard scoring pass with 4:15 left in the third quarter. Now seeing Visitors 44, Home 36, the once boisterous crowd now sat stunned.

Bonds scored his third touchdown of the night on a 5-yard scamper to close out the third quarter scoring with the Spartans trailing 44-43.

West Michigan reeled off the first 10 points of the fourth quarter to take a semi-commanding 54-43 lead as Hendrix notched a 30-yard field goal and Iciek lofted a 25-yard strike to Pray, who finished the night with 11 catches, 152 yards and three scores.

But the Spartans, sensing this might be their best chance to get into the win column, charged back as Rivera hit Headd with a 20-yard TD toss to cut the gap to 54-50 with 7:26 remaining in the game.

Hendrix made his fourth field goal of the night, a 34-yarder, on the ensuing drive, as the two teams traded blows down the stretch.

It appeared the Spartans might finally prove to be the team of destiny on this night when Bonds pounded his way across the goal line from 2 yards out with just 34 seconds left on the clock. Coach Brown, without hesitation, ordered the team to go for two points and the lead. Bonds, who finished with 96 yards on 15 carries, plowed through the line for a 58-57 lead.

Ideally, the ThunderHawks were hoping to run the clock down and take their chances with a Hendrix boot, but Iciek and Pray had other plans. Their 24-yard connection took just 10 seconds off the clock and paved the way for the strange and peculiar ending to an incredibly entertaining evening of indoor football.

Iciek, already the IFL's runaway leader in passing yards per game, tallied another 313 yards passing on 28-of-38 accuracy. His 7 touchdown tosses give him 28 in just 5 starts. Spann logged seven catches for 88 yards and 2 scores while Fricke also added a pair of scores as part of his 61-yard, three-reception performance.

Defensively, West Michigan got nine tackles each from Emery and James Skodak (Ferris State), who also intercepted Rivera. Adams chipped in 6 stops, including 3.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks. Hendrix, leading the IFL in P.A.T. percentage, drilled 6-of-7 point-afters and four field goals for 18 points.

Rivera's combination of heart and athleticism was just what the Spartans ordered. He finished the night 13-of-20 for 202 yards with 2 scores and one pick. He also scrambled for 61 more yards on 16 carries and a score. Straiten, also signed this week, made five grabs for 76 yards and a score while Headd added 93 yards on his four catches with a score. Bonds' 15 hauls produced 96 yards and four scores.

Jackson paced the Spartans defense with 10 stops (3 for loss, 1 sack and a blocked kick) while Jamil Abdullah (Western Kentucky) and Walner Belleus (Iowa) each were credited with 8 tackles.

West Michigan will now get a chance to avenge an earlier 45-39 setback at the hands of Atlantic East rival Richmond, when the Revolution pay their first visit to DeltaPlex Arena on Saturday, June 1st. La Crosse will continue to chase their first victory when they host the Chicago Slaughter on Friday, April 30th.

Diamonds Win Game In The Last Minute 26-23

The Arkansas Diamonds stole a victory from the Abilene Ruff Riders when quarterback Brian Jones scored a touchdown with 20 seconds left in the game.

The struggles on offense continued for the Arkansas Diamonds, even with a new quarterback, but the play of the league's best defense and kicker Brian Umstead kept them close in a game that threatened to get away in the fourth quarter.

New quarterback Brian Jones struggled all night with timing and rhythm having only joined the team on Thursday. However, with the game on the line, Jones played like the former Arena Cup champion he is by completing a 40 yard pass on the first play of the final drive and plowing into the end zone a few seconds later to give the Diamonds the lead. A. J. Harris provided the two point version to give the Diamonds the 26-23 lead.

The Ruff Riders had the game in hand with a little under a minute left, but chose to go for the touchdown rather than run out the clock giving the Diamonds another chance. Arkansas took over at their five yard line, where Jones completed his first pass of the drive. Two plays later he crossed the goal line.

The defense continued to show why they lead the league in defense holding the Ruff Riders to 23 points and setting up the first 10 points for the Diamonds. Kenneth Fontenette picked off two passes in the first quarter, returning one for a touchdown and the other deep in to Abilene territory setting up an Umstead field goal. The defense also came up with a safety.

Umstead hit three field goals for the Diamonds only failing to connect when two of his attempts hit the ceiling.

The win gives the Diamonds a 6-1 record heading to a two game home series starting on May 1 in Verizon Arena.
