Crew's Rogers added to US roster for Mexico friendly
In-form midfielder replaces injured Rangers star Maurice Edu
    [IMG]

Columbus Crew midfielder Robbie Rogers has seen a rise in his form in recent weeks.

His resurgence for the Eastern Conference leaders has led to a recall to the US national team for Wednesday’s friendly with Mexico (9 pm ET, ESPN2/Univision, get tickets).

Rogers replaces Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu, who was injured in a friendly against EPL side Chelsea on Saturday in Glasgow. Rangers lost 3-1.

Loyd and Pearce are out for both matches. Dempsey won't be traveling to LA for the Costa Rica match. Chris Pontius and Jonathan Spector have joined the squad to replaced the injured defenders.

Fabian Johnson is not likely to be eligible for the friendlies. He has to fill out a switch to play for the US since he represented Germany 20 times at various youth levels and he's only started that process recently.

Americans get it right, give Klinsmann first win as head coach

MIAMI – A craftsman’s goal from Clint Dempsey and stellar goalkeeper from Tim Howard gave Jurgen Klinsmann his first win as US coach Saturday night with a 1-0 victory over Honduras before 21,170 fans at Sun Life Stadium.

After starting his tenure with two losses and a tie, Klinsmann finally got a winning result to go along with the refreshing optimism he has brought to the US program. Dempsey scored in the 36th minute, calmly curling a left-footed shot into the upper 90 after a corralling a Brek Shea cross. Howard made the goal stand with two world-class saves, one to keep it scoreless early and another in the second half that preserved the result.

US to square off against France in Paris in November
Klinsmann takes team back to Europe for Nov. 11 friendly

The US Soccer Federation announced on Friday that the US men's national team will play an international friendly against France on Nov 11. The match is scheduled to take place at the Stade de France in Paris and will be broadcast live on ESPN2, ESPN3 and Univisión and Unvision.com at 3 pm ET.

"France is traditionally one of the best teams in the world," US head coach Jurgen Klinsmann said in a press release. "When you look at their history, the players that have come through their team and what they have accomplished, you have to be impressed. This is an awesome opportunity for our players to play in a stadium that has hosted a World Cup final, and a great experience for their careers."

US Soccer announced on Tuesday that the US national team will square off once again with Slovenia, on Nov. 15, in Ljubljana. The match, the first-ever for the US in Slovenia, will follow the already-announced Nov. 11 game against France in Paris, completing a double international fixture date.

Not a fan of the roster. Alfredo Morales belongs in the U23 camp, not here. George John and Omar Gonzalez should have been called in if teammates Shea and Donovan were. Beckerman and Donovan will have to be replaced. Hopefully Beckerman isn't replaced with Jeff Larentowicz or another defensive midfielder. And Robbie Rogers and Michael Orozco Fiscal are terrible.

I'd rather see John get called in (Gonzalez will be staying with LA through the break) or Michael Parkhurst. In midfield, Sacha Kljestan has been one of the better players for Anderlecht this year and can be the link between the defensive midfielders and the attackers and Klinsmann seems to be looking for with Torres and Holden injured.

Here's who I'd like to see start:

    Howard
    Cherundolo-Onyewu-Bocanegra-Chandler
    Bradley-Williams-Edu
    Dempsey-Altidore-Shea

I think its more likely that we'll be stuck with Orozco over Onyewu and Beckerman over Edu. The second of the two isn't so bad as Beckerman has been solid. Onyewu is carrying an injury, but I'd still much rather see him over Orozco, who is just terrible.

Buddle, Dempsey, Altidore score as US defeat Slovenia in 2011 finale

Revenge of a sort gave the US national team a win in their final match of 2011.

Edson Buddle, Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore each scored in the first half as the United States defeated Slovenia, 3-2, on a foggy night at Stožice Stadium in Ljubljana on Tuesday. The two teams tied 2-2 under controversial circumstances during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where the US were denied a seemingly good late winner.
The Americans' trio of goals on this night were one more than their previous total in six games under the guidance of Jurgen Klinsmann. The win marked Klinsmann’s second victory in charge, taking his record as US manager to 2-4-1 in the final international match scheduled for 2011.

US confirms January friendlies vs. Venezuela, Panama
Klinsmann & Co. to host Venezuela, travel to Panama in January

US Soccer on Thursday confirmed the long-rumored USMNT matches scheduled for January 2012. The first match features Venezuela on January 21 in Glendale, Ariz., followed by a road match against Panama in Panama City four days later.

The two games will wrap up Jurgen Klinsmann’s first January camp at the helm of the US national team. The traditional two-week training camp gathers many MLS-based players since the matches coincide with the MLS offseason and do not fall on FIFA fixture dates.

US to take on Italy in February 29 friendly in Genoa
Leap Day match to benefit flood victims, details still being finalized

AMSTERDAM — The US national team will be making a quick return to Europe for a great cause when they visit Italy in Genoa on Feb. 29, MLSsoccer.com has learned.

Multiple sources in Italy confirmed that the Nats will clash with the Azzurri to benefit victims of November's deadly flooding in Genoa just three months and change after winning at Slovenia. Details of the charity action are not yet known, but one source indicated that US coach Jurgen Klinsmann accepted a specific invitation for his team to take part in the event.

    Recap:
Clark's late header gives US 1-0 win over Venezuela
Substitute makes no mistake in stoppage time for dramatic win

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Time after time, chance after chance, the US national team pushed hard for a possible winning goal against Venezuela, only to be turned away.

Then, a foul put more time on the stoppage-time clock in the second half, and the US took advantage. Jermaine Jones’ corner kick found Ricardo Clark’s head, and Clark beat Venezuela goalkeeper Jose Morales in the eighth minute of extra time.

The final whistle sounded just seconds later, and the US celebrated a 1-0 victory before 22,403 at University of Phoenix Stadium.

    Rumor Central:
Canada to host US in WCQ tuneup?

The Canadian Soccer Association is set to make a few big announcements on Thursday, but who saw this one coming?

Rumors are that the CSA will not only announce the sites for Canada's World Cup Qualifying matches on Thursday, but it appears they'll also drop the news that Canada will host the US sometime in a friendly tuneup before the qualifiers. The US - who beat Canada in Detroit during the group stage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup last summer - have not played in Canada since a 3-0 win in Vancouver in 1997.

The Canucks lead the series 6-3-1 in matches played in Canada all-time, dating back to 1925. (CBC Sports - Canada to face US in World Cup qualifier tuneup http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/opinion/2012/02/canada-to-face-us-in-world-cup-qualifer-tuneup.html)

US to face rivals Canada in Toronto friendly on June 3
    [IMG]

The match, which will be televised live in the US on NBC Sports Network at 7 pm ET, will also serve as the final tune-up for both squads ahead of the third round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.

“First of all, we are honored to be chosen to be part of Canada's Centenary celebration,” US head coach Jurgen Klinsmann said in a statement. “This is exactly the type of challenge we are looking for as we grow the team and get ready for the start of World Cup qualifying. There is a great history in the rivalry, and Canada is a team we could see in the final round of qualifying. It's a win-win for everybody.”

US schedule Scotland friendly in Jacksonville on May 26
    [IMG]

Add Scotland to the list of friendlies United States national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann will use to round his team into form prior to the start of World Cup qualifying in June.

US Soccer announced on Wednesday that the US will play their seventh-ever match against Scotland on May 26 at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Fla. Kickoff is scheduled for at 8 pm ET, and the match will mark the national side’s debut on NBC Sports Network. It will also be televised on the Univision family of networks.

"Jacksonville has an amazing facility and is the perfect place for us to begin our important summer schedule," Klinsmann said in a statement. "We are excited to bring the US national team back to a part of the country we haven't visited in many years. It's fantastic that we can continue to give fans in different parts of the country the chance to share in the journey."
