Someone must have complained that gymnasts and swimmers have too many medal opportunities for doing the same thing repeatedly. In all seriousness, though, I thought new sports got added as an exhibition event first?
Guess it's legit. http://www.espn.com/olympics/story/_/id/19588090/3-3-basketball-added-2020-tokyo-olympic-program
When I saw a 3BA game at the Rose Garden several years ago it was played on a smaller full court, with shorter 3 point lines. I'm assuming this'll be the same.
There is also a discussion about adding pole dancing to the Olympics. It is rare that you see an organization get a truly great idea. Even when it originally popped up in an old issue of Playboy reader mail.
This strikes me as the equivalent of beach volleyball versus regular team volleyball. I always enjoyed beach volleyball more, more dynamic athleticism to my eye (as a non-volleyball expert). 3-on-3 basketball might be similarly fun.
But yeah, I like both men's and women's beach volleyball. I'm too old for such prurient interest. I'm very likely the oldest person on this forum...by a lot.
