Chelsea have the greatest depth in the EPL. They are able to comfortable with standing injuries to a forward, a midfielder, a defender and Cech while still competing comfortably for every trophy. They did just that last year where Drogba, Lampard, Terry and Cech all missed large chunks of the campaign. -Petey
With the injuries they have, of course their depth is going to be tested. They are two deep and very solid at every position, but when the top guy goes down, they're going to be tested. Mikel is good, but Essien is one of the best in the world at his position and Mikel isn't. However, there aren't many teams that can go from Essien to Mikel.
True. But not every team has Terry and Carlhavo either. It's not like they need Essien (in his CDM type role) to be successful. Their parts have all proven to be interchangeable, to find success. -Petey
So why can't they win the EPL title with all the depth they have? Is it the coaching? Or something else?
The difference last season was very small Celtic King. One lucky goal, or unlucky goal could have swung the title last year. Lets not forget that they also went MUCH further in the Carling Cup where Grant went full out. -Petey
^ You're right, and also in the Champions League final against United, it was decided on penalties. (rough loss for them) So there's a chance that this season they win the EPL title?
Sure. In regards to Chelsea, lets not forget they lost the Carling Cup in the finals, in what was a GREAT game, and lost the FA Cup very late in the tourney. -Petey
