All this talk about Dame and his value has made me reflect on what Dame has accomplished, his limitations, and his future in Portland. I love Dame, he is my favorite player on the team, and I think we are lucky to have him. With that said, all this talk (erroneously) about him being on the market has made me think about his value. Something made me think about Stephon Marbury, and how he was once a highly coveted offensive minded point guard. He bounced around the league from Minnesota to New Jersey to Phoenix and then to New York. He was never able to really elevate his team, despite putting up some decent numbers, and he fizzled out after the Knicks tried to make him into their conquering hero. Dame is a better offensive player than Marbury, but Steph was a better passer, and their defense is pretty comparable. Will Dame be a guy who is the best player on a crappy team, and eventually bounce around because his team wants something more? I ran a comparison of the two players through age 26. At that point Marbury had been in the league a few years longer than Dame, but I thought age was more relevant than experience in the league. http://bkref.com/tiny/gANjY I also think it's interesting that both Dame and Steph started their careers with an All-Star/Superstar big man. Dame inherited the team when LA left and Steph was traded to New Jersey.
Age 26 Stat line: Lillard 26/6/5 Marburg 20/9/3 TS%: Lillard 56% Marburg 52% OBPM Lillard 4.5 Marburg 3.9 DBPM Lillard -1.7 Marburg -2.5 And in terms of locker room presences, they're polar opposites. Marbury got bounced around and bottomed out because he was a hothead. Lillards nothing like that clown.
no. add steph curry to your comparisons and a couple of others, too. Otherwise, this thread looks like fancy bitching, which is why it was poorly received by Bones.
They are basically the same player. Lillard a better FT shooter and Arenas better at getting steals. Holy shit.
Don't infect the board with this trash then. We already have enough Dame-bashing as it is. The oft-injured asshole that brought guns into the locker room? Yeah, GREAT comparison. This is getting ridiculous.
Exactly. There's other players that he compares better to, but these dudes only want to compare him to Marbury and Arenas... SMH.
Those are some sweet stats bro! Except I'm talkin cumulatively and you're throwing out single season stats. Cumulatively at age 26: Lillard 19.7 PER Marbury 19.4 PER Lillard 110 DRtg Marbury 109 DRtg Lillard 28.9 AST% Marbury 38.5 AST%
