Is there any feasible way that we can re-sign Curry in 2019 if he has a breakout season this year?

I think Seth will command more than MLE if he has a good season.

Trade CJ/Turner/Meyers for Butler/Gibson/Dieng, then Butler walks. Then we'd have plenty of cap space to offer a broken-out Curry.

What would the contract have had to have been in order to give us Bird Rights?

Bird rights are for players that played 3 years with a team. Early Bird rights are for 2 years.

As a FA signing - he would have had to get a 3 year contract and after that - the team would have his Bird rights. Clearly this was not what the Blazers wanted here. I suspect he is a stop-gap if he does well, or a short-term experiment if he does not.

No, he signed a 5-year super max extension with GSW last summer. They have him locked up for this season, plus 3 more.

Dell may be available for the right price, though.

Is that feasible if he breaks out? Is that all we can offer?

Yup. We'll have his "Non-Bird Rights" which means we can offer 120% his previous contract.

I'm pretty sure it was Curry that wanted the deal structured that way, not the Blazers. He's got a player option for next year. The Blazers wouldn't put it in his hands if they only wanted him for one year as a stop gap. Curry is on a proove it deal since he wasn't getting good offers. If he struggles or is not healthy he can just pick up his option.

They are probably banking on Simons deserving playing time by then. And then there is Baldwin needing part of that MLE if he has a breakout season.

I don’t see him having a “breakout” season with Dame and CJ on the roster.
