Seeing the balance that the starting 5 has shown the past few games prompted me to wonder the following: The radio guys said "sure, best since Lamarcus left", but one suggested that maybe it's even better than the Lamarcus 5. Now of course it's early, we only have a small sample size, we've really only seen them together against bad teams, etc...but what's the fun of sports without the occasional premature overreaction? That said, here's the net performance of the current starting lineup, compared with some of the other contenders from prior seasons: 19-20: 18-19: 15-16: 14-15: But those are just numbers. I'm more interested in your "eye tests". From what you've seen, what do you think--how does this Melo lineup stack up against the others that Dame has played with over his career?
Id take the Wes/Nic/LMA/Rolo group. Though its hard to judge because Dame is a lot better now then he was then, if we could put 28/29 year old Dame with those guys they’d be so good...
Tough question.....I loved the Nurk Ed Davis rotation at center....over the few games with Melo, I think it could become the best roster Dame has played with....the Lamarcus days were just different. Dame was also younger and Nico was not consistent....I voted yes but only since Melo signed
I think CJ and Hood are way better then Wes and Nico...look at those guys since leaving and only Lamarcus is still really good ...Allan Crabbe has been dogshit for years since he left
You couldn't put offensive, defensive, and net ratings of each of those starting lineups??????? I'd take the Dame, Wes, Batum, LMA, and RoLo starting 5. A lack of bench and then injuries did in those teams, not the starting lineup. Off the top of my head I believe the Blazers were 24-5 out of the gate one of the two seasons with that group. That being said I hope we get a chance to see a healthy Nurk playing with Dame, CJ, Hood, and Melo. It's nowhere near as good defensively as the 2014-15 group but offensively how would you stop that?
I think team chemistry is a factor in the older rosters compared to this season where we've had 11 starting lineups....I also though Nico, Rolo and Lamarcus mailed it in after Wes got hurt when we were in the mix.
Our starting core today doesn't have enough time together to really make stat comparisons....that LA core knew how to play together for a long stretch...the body language after Wes went down was really really bad.....you got one effort game from Nico out of 6 games...Wes couldn't finish a layup on a fast break....Rolo didn't play well last half of the season....that's why I downgrade that core
Offensively, yes. Defensively, no. If you took the ACTUAL starting 5 (Nurk, Collins, Anthony, CJ, Dame) vs Rolo, LaMarcus, Batum, Wes and Dame, I'd go with the current team. But since it's not a healthy team, I can't.
Riverman, it was a joke aimed @PtldPlatypus because he took the time to put advanced stats but not the most important ones. Should've used green font on that one.
Dame/CJ/Melo/Collins/Nurk If healthy, that might just be the best balanced offence/defense we can get currently... AND I think it might be a touch better on D and alot better on O. Then add Whiteside/Hood/Bazemore/Simons/Skal and that's a deeper bench than most years past. I think I just talked myself into calling it. We win it all this year if Nurk and Collins come back healthy.
Melo would be terrible at the SF at this point of his career, he's now exclusively a PF, that is if you want him to still be effective.
duh...I mentioned already....Wes was terrible under the basket and at finishing a simple layup....great perimeter defender when healthy but offensively, CJ is worlds beyond Wes with his chest high dribble..Wes at his best was a 3 and D guy and the 3 didn't always fall....still doesn't. CJ over Wes and Rodney over Nico...Nurk over Rolo…..that's my take...Wes isn't in our starting roster now, thankfully. I don't know if you were joking or not . I'm comparing Blazer's starting rosters with Dame
