Uh....I......umm...don't enjoy saying it but -

Jeter is one of the BIGGER reasons why this team has struggled towards the bottom of the league in scoring.
His very light hitting .255- .265 in the 2 hole has hurt almost as much as any of those underwhelming 3,4,5,6 hitters. He has 19 total extra-base hits.

That's how it goes. Very rarely do players go out playing near the top of their game. And it's ALMOST become embarrassing. He is now a soft hitting ground ball machine.

Sure, Tex, Beltran and to a lesser degree McCann have been disappointing and everyone's whipping boys- but Jeter's soft, practically harmless production near the top of the lineup has also hurt - alot!

    I feel cleansed.

Jeter is certainly getting out at the right time. The constant pounding of balls into the ground to the right side is nauseating.

No doubt, I'm sure this is not how Derek wanted to go out.....

Yet, all in all, looking beyond this year alone, you gotta' admit, Derek gave us our thrills, and money's worth at SS, in his prime, for that, I'll never forget the greatest Yankee SS to play in the Bronx, IMHO....just saying RE2PECT....a thing of beauty, a walk to remember down memory lane...for that much I am thankful....

If the Yanks even offer Hanley Ramirez an offer, then the entire Steinbrenner family needs to be executed, along with Cahsman.....Hanley is a slug, his best days are also up. Tho' he will have his agent push for alot more money than he's proven he's not worth, this year....

Of course he's the best shortstop to play in NYC, and the only other SS in MLB history (imo), who is close to him is Cal Ripkin. How about Arod? Maybe if you give him a pass on PEDS for his years playing SS.
I no longer compare deadball era players/stats with modern era players so that leaves out Honus Wagner - in my book.

Jeter played all 20 years at SS, currently 259 HRs, 1301 RBI, .310 career hitter with .817 OPS and he stole over 350 bases. Ernie Banks played half his career at 1b and Ozzie Smith wasn't the hitter Jeter was.

The Yankees won't go after Hanley - and I wouldn't touch Tulowitzky unless Colorado picks up half of his salary.

Funny and Jete could have been predicted to bat 290-300 as he had raised his avg to 280 on July 29. August (207) and Sept (139) are very un-Jeter-esque.

He was in the 270s for most of the season & battered near 290 for July. Maybe he's just running out of gas but I really didn't want to see him on this kind of a free fall. I'm hoping he's still got a few multi hit games left.
