The former Strikeforce middleweight champion and long-time UFC contender decided to retire from the sport. Souza (26-10 MMA, 9-7 UFC) announced the news with Combate on Tuesday night. Souza last fought at UFC 262 in May when he suffered at he suffered a broken arm in his technical submission loss to Andre Muniz. The result extended “Jacare’s” losing skid to four in a row. The Brazilian competed in the UFC from 2013 until 2021. Throughout his tenure in the organization, he always remained one of the bigger names in the middleweight division and for the majority of the run was considered a contender.
MMA retirements rarely last. Hopefully he's set himself up for his future and won't need to return in six months.
