Are they going to bring weed to the airport in tinfoil? Guns? Get pulled over and show their basketball cards as ID

If they're going to be open and honest I would fucking love to hear stories from their era. I bet we don't know a 10th of what went down.

    Nice!!

I loved that era! North East Portlands finest Damon Stoudamire, Rasheed Wallace, Bonzi Wells, that was a filthy squad

I don't care what anybody says there's a reason we haven't had a squad that good since they were here. We almost won a title with the Jail Blazers team I miss them

The Whitsitt era was fun and we were super competitive. Though we were the laughingstock in pro sports because of how many dumb things those guys all did around the same time.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
How do we define the "Jail Blazers" era? Was it just with JR Rider, or does it include the years with Pippen, since Sheed and Stoudamire and Wells were doing their thing? I've never really been sure what precisely comprised the "Jail Blazer" era. Does it extend all the way through Zach Randolph's Portland years (so until 2006-07)?

Regardless, I'd love to see an insider documentary of the years.

I remember Larsa coming decked out to the games, hot as hell. Always with a giant bodyguard.

If Portland doesn't blow the 4th quarter in 2000 WCF, the whole Jail Blazers era would've been completely worth it. Even if they flame out the next year, it would've been a legendary championship team. Can you imagine all the Portland soccer moms arguing over retiring Sheed's jersey? Pippin with one more ring than Jordan? Sabas completing his resume?

Shaq and Kobe would've started feuding a lot sooner. With that bounce I don't think there's any guarantee they come back next year and cruise to a ring. I can easily imagine shit getting out of hand in the off season with every reporter asking how could they have blown it. If those Lakers fall apart, you could easily see Duncan getting several more rings and suddenly he's at least in the argument for GOAT.

In a franchise loaded with what-ifs, those god damned 12 minutes are right at the top for me. What if those flaky fuckers had just kept their shit together for 12 more minutes. *sigh*

Anyway, I don't know anything about this documentary other than there's no way in hell Bonzi and Sheed could organize their way into a paper bag. At best, it's going to be a couple of high old men giggling into an iPhone, at worst a couple of really stupid misdemeanors.

Of all of them, I am kind of curious to know what Ruben Patterson is doing now. He raped a lady, he got his faced mash by Zach Randolph, and he didn't stop Kobe. Where do you go from there?

^ Good post! That 4th quarter continues to give me nightmares. I can remember exactly where I was at watching it and the feeling of utter disbelief and heart broken. It was horrible.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Whenever I think of that fourth quarter, my main memory is early in the quarter, the Blazers up 15 and the Lakers missing a shot--Brian Grant has position and seemed to have the rebound. Then Shaq ripped the ball out of his hands and went back up and scored. Probably unfairly, I've always thought of that as the turning point in the game. Grant secures that rebound and the Blazers have the ball with a 15 point lead and all the momentum. Instead, it's an instant 2-4 point swing and the Lakers get some momentum.

Lots and lots of other stuff had to happen, like the Blazers basically missing every shot from then on out, but for some reason that moment seems most significant to me.

I don't consider the 2000 team a true Jail Blazers team. They were led by veterans like Pippen, Sabonis, Smith, Grant, Schrempf and none off them had any problems off the court. The biggest controversy with them was Sheed's techs. It was more the years surrounding that with Rider and especially immediately following where they devolved into Jail Blazerdom. 2002-03 was probably the peak of Jail Blazer-ness.
