I turned off early in the fourth, so I was checking the boxscore this morning, and it's mostly very ugly: Lillard: -29 in 32 mins Crabbe: -33 in 20! Turner: -36 in 21!! But then: Layman: 17 points in 8 minutes, +10!!! We have found our savior! Anyone made a highlight reel yet?
So many people on our bench didn't show up last night, but you chose turner to single out? The guy went 5-6 for 14 points. Come on man.....
been saying the same stuff about layman since summer league. He showed the same ability then but it got lost in the box scores.
Yes, I think we shouldn't be allowed to write anything at all on this forum unless it's about a ten-year spread of games long in the past. Anything else would be wild speculation just for the fun of it, and there's no place for that on internet forums.
Just poking a little fun at these kinds of threads. Loved what Layman showed last night, and I agree that I've been impressed with what he's shown at summer league and in limited minutes during the preseason. I think he's got a world of potential, but I do think a little larger sample size may be helpful in evaluating him.
so is he a full-on member of the Tony Delk All-Star squad, or more like a commissioner's selection as an injury replacement?
What really impressed me with him last night was, after stroking several 3s, he got the ball in traffic near the hoop but instead of thinking he was hot shit and unstoppable made the right play and passed out to the open man at the top of the arc. He wasn't playing garbage ball, he was playing basketball. He definitely earned more minutes based off of that pass alone, IMO. If he doesn't get rewarded with 5m of play in the next game I'll be pretty disappointed. When a player plays team ball (and puts on that sort of shooting display!) in garbage time, you've got to reward them.
besides an awesome Lillard and a streaky CJ and perhaps Vonleh he's the only guy whose showin he can shoot outside worth a shit
Yep, gotta give him that. I remember a few years back, when Crabbe,Leonard,Barton,Robinson and CJ played in garbage time they looked like fucking buffoons out there.
since its a back to back, I hope Stotts puts him in the rotation tonight, even if it's for one short shift. He's earned a look at the very least.
After last night's performance I can only assume he's untouchable. So he'll need a nickname. Thoughts? The deep hurt?
But Bartelstein, a long time power agent in the NBA, said there is much more to Layman. “He’s one of those rare seniors with gigantic upside to his game,’’ Bartelstein said. “He’s kind of a late bloomer. His strength is coming and he has gotten better and better each year, and even late this season. So I think he’s a fascinating guy because he has so much upside. I think he will be a terrific player.’’ Layman on Friday said he can see similarities between his game and that of Utah wing Gordon Hayward. “I’m not saying I’m him right now, but a guy who I can (model his game after) is Gordon Hayward,’’ Layman said. Bartelstein said he told his client getting picked by Portland was a home run for two reasons: it’s always big to be a team’s only selection in a draft; and it’s important to be a targeted player, not just someone who is picked because they are available. “It’s really important to come into the league and know a team wanted you enough to get the rights to get your pick,’’ Bartelstein said. “I know how much time Neil spent scouting and watching him, how much he focused on him, and to me, that says a lot.’’ http://www.csnnw.com/portland-trail...olshey-get-their-target-marylands-jake-layman interesting sidenote that means nothing; Bartelstein is also Hayward's agent.
