The Indiana Pacers announced that they waived point guard Jamaal Tinsley(notes) on Wednesday, and a team spokesman said the NBA will process the request Thursday. If he clears waivers in seven days, he will become a free agent. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...vLYF?slug=ap-pacers-tinsley&prov=ap&type=lgns
He averaged 9.4 points and 8.1 assists as a rookie. Then helped the Pacers claim the league’s best record in 2003-04, and the team was 34-9 in his regular-season starts after he came off the injured list. He averaged a career-best 15.4 points in 2004-05, but played just 40 games. He averaged 15.8 points and 8.6 assists in his first 24 games two seasons ago before a knee injury slowed him. * * * “Jamaal is in the best shape of his life,” Brothers said. “There are several teams that have tried to trade for him, and there are several teams that are interested in him.” Would you take for the vet's minimum?
I dunno. Maybe. He's a very good passer and he's 30... so not exactly ancient. He might be a total waste of a roster space, or he might be able to contribute. The thing is that he's not going to push us over the edge and we might be better served just going with Bayless at the backup 1. Ed O.
For the Vet's minimum I'd probably be ok with giving him a shot. At that price if he's a problem he can be waived easily enough. He was a talented player who can't stay healthy and seems to have some issues. People however can change, and something like being banished from your team just might be what it takes to cause these changes. That being said, I certainly wouldn't want to make any sort of long term commitment to him. There's no telling if he can even still play at a high level, much less avoid causing problems like he did in Indiana.
Have we all lost so much hope that Tinsley is someone we would even discuss? Portland does not need a shorter, skinnier version of Z-Bo. He was such a cancer that Indiana wouldn't even let him into the training facility with the other players. I would rather go into the next season with Bayless as the starter then sign a pile of shit like Tinsley for even the minimum possible. And Bayless as a starter would be really depressing.
What was it that Tinsley did that made Indiana exile him? It must have been bad for them to just pay him to stay at home for a year, and for no other team to want to trade for him, but what was it? barfo
Hello, What is going on? Did I miss the time machine? In my limited free time to try to keep up with this draft these zombie threads about potentials being resurrected is… Well let me ask this. What is the point of this?
The Tin Man! Mel Mel the Abuser! I've got some stories from his Iowa State days...loved that guy in college.
