I'm not a religious person myself, but I do respect others rights to worship and believe. So, this turns my stomach. I've been to the grotto several times, and although it is a Catholic shrine, it's open to the general public. It is such a peaceful, serene setting. I can't imagine why anyone would violate it in this manner. Even if you're not religious, you should be outraged by this senseless act. Those statues were beautiful, priceless works of art that some idiot(s) destroyed. When you destroy art, or burn books, you are stealing the beauty of those works from future generations.

This hits close to home. I'm taking my daughter to the grotto tomorrow night to watch a performance by her high school choir.

Lame! I went to midnight mass last year at the Grotto, despite being an atheist myself. It is a nice place, and it's sad to read people would defame others' things.

This is hardly the action of atheists. Atheists aren't the ones who burn Korans and decapitate statues. I'm guessing some drunk frat boy types. You know, I'm a real man because I can beat up a statue.

Stupid but honestly I get more riled when a real person is attacked.

Well, speculation aside, what we do know is that someone(s) did it for reasons no one really knows.
