Eight-time Gold Glove-winning center fielder Jim Edmonds, who was due in Cardinals camp Friday on a non-roster contract, is retiring, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The Cardinals are expected to make a formal announcement later in the day. Edmonds, who is nursing a right foot injury, informed Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak of his decision, the Post-Dispatch reports. The 40-year-old Edmonds was a member of the Cardinals' 2006 World Series championship team. Known for making spectacular, over-the-shoulder catches, he finishes his career with .393 home runs.
