Here's the deal though... If we don't add another CJ level player at some point we're going to lose Dame. He's a great guy, but come on. This is exactly the situation we need to take advantage of if we want to really compete.
Doesn't matter. Top 10 protect the picks. If Butler jets we're going to need to trade Dame and CJ (for youth and picks probably), so we'll end up tanking and keeping the first couple picks anyway. If Butler stays, however, those picks are far less valuable to us than the vets who will sign cheap in the hopes of winning a title.
They should use Win Shares, not PER. I agree on Dieng.. taking on his contract would be favorable for MIN. If we traded CJ+Meyers for Butler+Dieng, I'd look at trading ET for Batum, since Batums bad contract would line up with Dieng's. Plus, Batum would fit into that Butler/Harkless/Aminu mold of a guy who can guard 4 positions.
New Orleans had the Top 4 players in that series. AD, Holliday, and Rondo were definitely better than any of our players. Mirotic too maybe, in the way he was able to swing Game 3. Aminu maybe.
Never thought I'd see you post something like this. So sensible... You forgot the fact that we got outcoached.
We don’t have a chance and the GM isn’t willing. CJ is not a Thibs type and a straight up deal wouldn’t even work financially. We can’t deal Collins because we’re already thin up front, and Turner isn’t an asset, even if Thibs likes him. That’s just blazers fans fantasy.
What would our cap situation look like in a theoretical world where we traded CJ for Butler and Butler bounced next summer? I ask because Cousins is a free agent, and he’s one guy Portland may have a shot at because of Lillard.
Butler would be great! (notices price tag of $38 million per year for 5 years) (sticker shock) Forget this guy! Olshey should have the competence to trade for unnoticed talent costing much, much less.
I get a feeling that is how Olshey has operated the last couple of years while trying to make deals, telling the opposing GM that he would trade anything except for every half useful asset that he has.
CJ is likely the best player they could get back. Thibs brought in Jamal Crawford and Jeff Teague... yet you think he'd take a worse package back than CJ McCollum because he doesnt like that type of player? There's no basis for that.
He likes tough minded players. Teague is that. Crawford is a bench player, not a guy being paid like a superstar. Just off the top I know I’d rather have Gary Harris if I was Minnesota.
Teague is more tough-minded than CJ? According to what? Gary Harris is an equally paid yet worse version or C.J.... he doesn't really defend or pass or rebound, and is a volume scorer, just like C.J.
