The New York Islanders have signed defenseman Johnny Boychuk to seven-year, $42 million contract extension. Boychuk, 31, earned $3.6 million this season and would have been an unrestricted free agent this summer. The Islanders acquired the veteran blueliner from the Boston Bruins on Oct. 4, 2014, in exchange for a pair of second-round picks in 2015 and 2016 and a conditional third-round pick in 2016.
