Jr.... Just wanted to give a shout out to one of my childhood heroes, The Kid. He was elected with the highest percentage of votes in history (along with Mike Piazza.) Though I am a die hard Yankee fan and don't care about anything Seattle, it would be nice if he went in a Mariner. But I'm betting Cincy, since he's from Ohio. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Griffey was one of those once in a lifetime athletes that is so popular he pulled in casual fans. I hate baseball, but griffey made me appreciate it as a kid and I loved watching him play. (Bo Jackson was the other because I'm a raiders fan) Also sported some of his sneakers as a kid. And of course, loved ken griffeys major league baseball on snes. Congrats griffey
I hope he is smart enough to realize that the hall of fame portion of his career was played in Seattle, and there is really no justification for him going in under any other logo. I also hope he has his hat on backward on his bust/plaque.
I have no idea why people are upset and think griffey roided up. Who the fuck cares? Dude was always smaller and when he went to cincy got fat. I don't think he juiced personally, but even if he did, give that man props for never getting caught like Sosa, bonds, McGuire etc.
Who says Griffey roided up? That's insane! His swing was a text book example of wrist power and torque. Muscle mass would only have hurt his production. They may have a point with Piazza. He got bigger and improved his physique when he was with the Mets. But Jr. suffered from injuries and sadly, let himself go in the latter part of his career. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Ugh. Thats okay. I'm a Yankee die-hard but can only take so much b-tching. As if Brian Cashman and Hal Steinbrenner weren't bad enough. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
I was listening to ESPN radio and they were basically saying that some voters believe that nobody should get in with a unanimous vote so they will vote no just to keep that streak going. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
People are assholes. Never want to give credit where it's due. Everyone wants to be the 'contrarian' nowadays.
I'm no where near a baseball fan, but I know his name. He played for the Mariners for most of his career didn't he? Good for him. I'm always happy to see people rewarded for their accomplishments. I'm sure it was well deserved after years of dedication to the sport.
A few writers out of the several hundred that vote. Usually when they don't vote for an obvious choice it's because they want to include someone else on the ballot they wouldn't be able to otherwise. Rarely it's because they don't think he deserved it. I see in this case some voters actually sought to prevent him from getting a unanimous vote which is ludicrous. Jr.'s swing was a work of art.
I guess the thought (as ludicrous as it may be) was that if someone like Babe Ruth didn't get in with a unanimous vote, then Griffey should not either. It's stupid.
His swing was the essence of beauty wasn't it! The perfect combination of balance, strength, form and precision. You try to describe it for people who have never played baseball and they just don't understand. It's akin to Ben Hogan's golf swing.... Jr. just "owned it." I will go on to say that there are other players whose swings are right up there for me.... Don Mattingly, Gary Sheffield, and Rafael Palmeiro all were unique. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
I don't think it really matters. Before Jackie Robinson broke the color line and Latinos were allowed to compete in baseball.... I mean you could question the MLE statistical analysis of everybody in there before 1947. If they weren't playing against "the best." I trust Bill James' list of the 100 best players in baseball history. But is Walter Johnson at his peak better than Pedro in his famous run? I doubt it! Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Disagree. It depends on their reasoning. People should be permitted to have differing opinions; otherwise what's the point of having a vote at all? For instance, consider the fact that the voting instructions don't require a voter to select the 10 most worthy candidates, only to select up to 10 that are deserving. If a particular voter believed there were 11 worthy candidates, and they were limited to only 10 votes, there's a valid argument to be made for not voting for the shoo-in and selecting the other 10.
No, there isn't. I'd even be more irritated if one of the 7 percent that voted for Sosa left off Junior. What if all of them left him off using that line of reasoning?
