I'm a raiders fan, wouldn't mind this one bit. They should be looking to come to Portland. We would easily support a nfl team.
So at what point will we have a population that makes it extremely stupid for them to not have an NFL or MLB team here?
When we have a population that doesn't care if the MC goes down, MLB on the waterfront would be gorgeous and a huge boom to the summer economy.
Portland will never okay any public funding for a major arena. They didn't in the 70's when it was equitable and they won't now. They are ideologically against the very concept. It's like the Memorial Coliseum, you think they really want to keep that place? That would actually cost money for renovation. What was the last idea? Turn it into a new venue for sports? Ha. Apathy and poor planning will keep Memorial Coliseum up for 30 another years at least. Then it probably falls down, or catches on fire and burn down like that baseball stadium in Eugene last summer. I'm sure the city would be all over it. They would likely be able to fund most of the project with the thought of taxing thenticket sales to pay back the stadium in perpetuity
If their was a grass roots drive to keep Memorial Coliseum that started I could maybe see the City getting behind that. That local building conservation would be good with the local press and community groups. But any MLB or NFL to Portland would have had to happen in the 90's I think. The MLB to PDX movement had a lot more dialog after the Rose Garden was built than people realize. The iron was hot but sadly nothing ever came from it. Now there is just nothing. Any time there is a possible tax to bring in more revenue the city, state, feds would be behind it. They want people's money. Bringing in a nfl team would allow them to tax ticket sales and create another revenue source to fund roads, schools etc.
You really want the Raiders up here don't you.... [emoji13] Hell. I wouldn't mind seeing the Jets every other year. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
The nfl has already said Oakland and st Louis aren't viable nfl cities. The only options left are: Vegas - would love it because I go to Vegas often and would love to catch a game while there. Unlikely due to the gambling aspect and sports organizations have been reluctant to put a team so close to casinos San Antonio- very possible, but jerry Jones would try to kill the deal, and it makes me question that deal when Davis is looking at Vegas Los Angeles - they will move here if san Diego decides to stay in san Diego San Diego - raiders could move here and move into Qualcomm, but rumblings are that san Diego doesn't want them and they'd need a new stadium anyways which is why the chargers are leaving them Portland - the biggest city without two big pro teams. And we are growing rapidly. Three years in a row of the most moved into state, already has a decent amount of raiders fans due to raiders and niners being our tv options years ago. I think it's much more possible than people think. The greyhound park could be a location, or they could find land near wilsonville to try to spread out traffic. Also, someone here posted previously there was some land at the port of Portland that could turn into a stadium
Instead of seats they made it so you could just sit on your bike to watch the game the politicians and voters would approve funding for a stadium.
I'm sorry even if the Raiders moved up here I couldn't switch my loyalties from the Jets. But nothing against the Silver and Blacks. And I'm sure there are a lot of Hawks fans that are the same way. You'd get the younger kids who would latch on to the team and then the area fans who bought tickets for the opposing team. So, basically older butter f-ck like me. Still would be great to have a team though. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
How can you do that? All those years of ups and downs, all those memories..... I can't throw away the "The Fake Spike" Game or "The Miracle at The Meadowlands?" Okay. So I became a Jets fan because I wanted a team as FAR AWAY from Seattle as possible (yes, I hate their sports teams that much) But at some point your old experiences help dictate the new ones. I'll still have all the memories and will continue to cheer for them when they're playing Portland. It would just be great having a local team to get behind.
That's cool, default Raider fan, except on certain weekends. Wish I could do that. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
I guess from the Niner's standpoint, it's a good thing they moved to Santa Clara - they stand a much better chance of not falling into the ocean now than they did if they were still in San Francisco.
