Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman, runs a significant risk of spending the rest of his life in prison and the evidence against him by special counsel Robert Mueller’s office seems strong, a federal judge declared in an order made public on Tuesday. U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III, who is based in Alexandria, Virginia, and is assigned to a newly filed indictment against Manafort dealing with bank fraud and tax evasion, said the veteran lobbyist and political consultant posed “a substantial risk of flight” because of his assets and the gravity of his legal predicament. “The defendant is a person of great wealth who has the financial means and international connections to flee and remain at large, as well as every incentive to do so,” Ellis wrote in an order setting the terms of what the judge called “home incarceration” for Manafort, 68, who lives in Alexandria but also has homes in Florida and on Long Island. “Given the nature of the charges against the defendant and the apparent weight of the evidence against him, defendant faces the very real possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison,” wrote Ellis, an appointee of President Ronald Reagan. The order, dated Friday, puts Manafort in a “24-hour-a-day lockdown” at his Alexandria condo, except for medical appointments or emergencies, court appearances and meeting with his defense attorneys. Ellis did not require Manafort to post any assets, but did order that he pay $10 million if he fails to appear in court. https://www.politico.com/story/2018/03/13/judge-manafort-could-face-rest-of-life-in-prison-460302
He certainly has reason to sing. He's 68, any long sentence could well translate to life, plus forfeiture of assets. The Law & Order president! Hires the best people!
“Given the nature of the charges against the defendant and the apparent weight of the evidence against him, defendant faces the very real possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison,” wrote Ellis... Grounds for complete dismissal of the case due to obvious prejudice and pre-judgement by the judge of record. Also grounds for disbarment of the "judge".
And, once again, we see the desperation of Mueller and his crack team of Democrat lawyers. They’ve got nothing on Trump so they’re going after Manafort for things that have nothing to do with Trump.
Just the slightest donation might put him over the top and show that 'ol meany, Mueller, just how wrong he is. I don't know what some people are worried about, I'm sure Manafort will be acquitted.
Yep, I wouldn't worry about Trump. Nothing bad is going to happen to him legally. Now, doesn't that make you feel better?
Yes, of course, but they wouldn’t be going after him at all if he weren’t part of Trump’s team. They’re so desperate to make Trump look bad that they are trying to nail people for anything they can find. And what they’re nailing Manafort has nothing at all to do with Trump’s campaign for president.
Dog is judge and jury. The man is innocent until proven guilty. His crimes are alleged ones at this point. He is contesting the charges, and there are two sides to the story; we've heard only one side so far. That said, we should be wary of taking a sentence here and there out of context. The judge isn't prejudging anything. He is stating a fact. Manafort, if convicted, may well die in jail. For this reason, his wealth, and others, he is a flight risk. That's all the judge was talking about. He's right. Manafort was told he was going to be indicted long before he was. He could have fled US jurisdiction at any time. But he didn't. There's something to be said for that, too. I don't think he's a fool.
Oh! I see. Well I did not intend it to be. But I can see, where it probably would depend on the answer to the question.
I don't see where the answer has anything to do with the question. But I will accept your statement about your intention or rather your statement about a lack of an intention about a challenge to my character.
Caught on camera doing what? And why isn't he being charged for a crime? Because it would get laughed out of court, that's why.
