Looks like he will clear waivers. Injuries are the issues. Would you pick him up on a minimum salary? I would be tempted.
Yeah he's totally broke down. I'd take him back for free just to feel good, but not to get production from him.
Yeah, that and his hip. But he is a good locker room guy and I am not convinced he is done. He can still shoot. Again I am talking a minimum vet salary.
No he's hobbled by injury. For his health he needs to retire it's similar to Roy it could harm his long term ability to perform basic tasks. Mike Miller is in much better physical condition and we didn't want to keep him. As worthless as Luis Montero is in my opinion he's a superior player today.
Even if you're assessment of his health was correct, which I disagree with, he makes no sense for this Blazers team since we have a great locker room culture and are trying to build for the future years from now. We're not looking to add aging veterans for a couple of wins.
Yeah if he hadn't had the back injury would have been a great career backup to keep on the team. If we had drafted him in the second round instead of taking him over Chris Paul us fans may have been more happy with his play here.
He is out the whole season. What use is it to bring him in now? If you think he has recovered (I think it is chronic so I would say it won't be) then you just sign him in the off-season.
Kind of a big detail. I guess we could give him a call in the summer after our other moves if we have a hole at SF. It would only make sense if we got other veterans and we're trying to win now. If doctors clear him and say he doesn't risk permanent damage, which I doubt. I just think even in that case there's likely better options. In his prime he was a 13 PER type of backup. There is nobody left of the players or management from when he played here.
I know his wife is from Portland and spends the off season here. Always liked his game. Never can forget we drafted him instead Derron Williams and CP3 though!!!!
Sad to hear that. Always have a soft spot in my heart for Martell. Once a Blazer always a Blazer.... (wink wink) most of the time.
