To be clear, he simply said it's "unlikely" that Klay plays this season, and based that solely on the standard expected recovery timeline. There hasn't been any further evaluation of his recovery clearly indicating that he won't play. yeah, this isn't really surprising. ACL injuries have a long recovery time. I'd say the Warriors have been expecting this; that's why they traded for Russell. I don't think their offense will fall off that much this season; but their defense sure will after losing Klay, Iggy, and Livingston. They won't have the combination of those 3 guys to throw at Dame all game long anymore
You don't think their offense will suffer? They aren't just losing Klay....they also lost someone else.

sure, and I didn't mean to imply their offense wasn't going to drop off, but their offense, before Durant, was good enough to propel them to 73 wins in the regular season and a championship when the trio leading the charge was Curry-Klay-Green. They 'replaced' Klay with D'Angelo Russell and he was pretty good last season. Obviously his efficiency wasn't anywhere close to Klay, but he had to get a big part of his offense on his own. His assisted FG rate was 29%. That efficiency should increase, maybe by quite a bit, in the Warrior system I think it will be close to if GS replaced Klay with CJ, except that Russell averaged 7 assists vs CJ's 3 assists. They are about equally bad on defense they won't have Durant to be the center of their offense anymore. But the ball will be in the hands of Curry, Green, and Russell. That's a good fall-back position. Sure, there are questions about it, but most WC teams have questions related to big off-season changes Portland should be the better team, if for no other reason than that Dame won't have to contend with the defense of Klay and Iggy

LMAO, I was thinking about that same post. Although it's possible they're just toning down the optimism right now so people stop asking when he'll be back.
They've had the highest offensive efficiency of the past decade this last year at 113.9 pts/100 possessions. That is higher than the 73 win season. There is no chance they are sniffing that this season. Their roster is also basically G-league players outside of the 3 guys and Looney.
It's interesting looking back again at that 73-win team, because I think many forget that that was by far Curry's best year, and then he took a pretty significant step back offensively after KD joined the team. I think there's a decent chance that we see a Steph this year that approaches the levels we saw 4 years ago, simply because they're going to need a lot more from him than they have at any point in the Kerr era.
sure, and he hasn't been a durable player, but the same is true for Portland and Dame, or Houston and Harden, or Lakers and Lebron, or the Bucks and Giannis. Teams can't afford to lose their franchise cornerstones for any significant time not only that, a Blazer fan should know better than to risk injury karma Alec Burks and Willie Cauley-Stein are a lot better than G-League. And guys like Spellman, Robinson, & Chriss have been on about the same level as Hezonja & Tolliver what are you predicting for the Warriors....lottery sure seems to be what you're implying?
