7y is a long time for someone who has alot of physical miles already but i guess they can always use a buyout towards the end.

This is a solid deal for TB I think. Of course the last 2-3 years of the deal will be rough, but any deal that gets signed by a UFA or UFA to be seems to be that way. All things being equal a 6.75 cap hit is very favorable to TB (and McDonagh does have the advantage of playing in a no state income tax state like Florida).

I disagree mel. Good deal for win now TB. Will the last 2 or 3 years be rough, sure, but that is the UFA price and if they win a cup they wont care. And that cap hit is very fair and good value for TB.

Mcd with the concussions has been overrated for awhile now. 6.75 is a disaster of a contract for tampa bay. He makes a lot of mistakes on D that everyone overlooks and is not the offensive player he looked to be in 13-14. Very happy we're not paying that contract

I am happy also, but we are not a win now team, TB is. I think it is a solid deal for them given where they are and what they expect to do the next 2 or 3 seasons. Like most UFA deal the last couple of years will be downers. That's the price you pay for going for it and signing UFA's/UFA's to be.

To me there is no doubt McDonagh left money on the table seeing some of these other deals.
