Since May 1, Travis Hafner is hitting .172 (including 0-2 tonight). That's the lowest BA in the majors (min. 200 PA) in that span.

A one dimensional, totally done major league player still taking up a roster spot on our team. Cashman, 200 plate appearances, 200, is that not enough data to say goodbye. It's no wonder our farm system sucks if this is a benchmark, lets wait for him to get hot mentality.

Messiah, I'm with you. Using this data to evaluate players, it has come to my attention I officially know nothing about baseball. You should ban me for the remainder of the season for being dumb enough to still root for this team.

The really sad thing is that if A-Rod had come back today as planed I've no doubt that Hafner would have been released.

What I don't get is why you would want to keep plugging an automatic out into the DH spot. Just DFA the guy already and let anybody hit in that spot.

Hell that batboy could most likely bunt for a hit, this is where the organizations logic just confuses me even more. Do something, even if it turns out wrong.

Hafner has been given every benefit of the doubt and opportunity but it's clear the guy is finished. He hit .228 in limited time last season. After a good April there has been three months of absolutely nothing. He's finished and the Yankees just need to make it official.

If and when they acquire Soriano,

    1) Hafner has to be the guy that goes, but watch it will be Mesa most likely
    2) Girardi gets a lot more balance and late inning options that he hasn't had all year

Jeter looks like he will be back Saturday so between him and Soriano that's going to be it for Hafner.
