Metta World Peace is back in the NBA, and back with the Lakers. But looking back on his career, he says it’s not the same NBA that he remembers playing in once.

“It’s no longer a man’s game,” MWP said after Lakers practice on Saturday. “It’s a baby’s game. There’s softies everywhere. Everybody’s soft. Nobody’s hard no more.”

“I remember I came into the NBA in 1999, the game was a little bit more rough. The game now is more for kids. It’s not really a man’s game anymore,” World Peace said. “The parents are really protective of their children. They cry to their AAU coaches. They cry to the refs, ‘That’s a foul. That’s a foul.’

“Sometimes I wish those parents would just stay home, don’t come to the game, and now translated, these same AAU kids whose parents came to the game, ‘That’s a foul.’ These kids are in the NBA. So now we have a problem. You’ve got a bunch of babies professionally around the world.”

“It’s no longer a man’s game,” he said. “It’s a baby’s game. There’s softies everywhere. Everybody’s soft. Nobody’s hard no more. So, you just deal with it, you adjust and that’s it.”

So, being a man is going to attack fans in the stands?

    Got it.

I completely agree..the softness started when he went from Ron Ron to Meta World Peace...a real man's name that just says tough all over it!

So, to be a man, you still beat up fans? No self control? Men don't have self-control, then? Hmm... Well, that's false. I'll say that.

Those two issues are unrelated. Ron-Ron going after the fan was stupid, and didn't make him "tough" or "a man". But what I see him talking about is players constantly flopping and crying for fouls instead of just playing through contact and playing straight-up hard-nosed D.

    And he's right.

Players are too dependent on "getting calls", but I don't blame parents or AAU. I blame refs who call weak-ass ticky-tack fouls that have no actual impact on the game, and reward weak-ass, flop-centric defense. If the babies weren't rewarded for their flopping and whining, they would man up and play the game the way MWP thinks they should.

It's a shame the Lakers had to bring him out of retirement.

I wish the NBA would implant the hand checking rule back in.

I agree with him. And I wish more kids today focused on multiple recreational activites as well. It cuts off your athletic development to only focus on one sport. It also narrows the amount of options you have for the future. But with Academy Sports becoming the norm, there is only so much available.
