Interesting interview from Mike Barrett about the Blazers and many things. He said it was Paul's decision to fire him and Mike Rice. He said he thinks the job was Kevin Calabro's job for years and he could basically have the job anytime he wanted it, and that was the first time he wanted it.
I don't know who the hosts are, but the guy said that a player told him that we aren't getting free agents because of our ownership group. Specifically said the player told him Paul Allen (so obviously this was a few years ago.)
...seems awfully dubious that players in the league would despise an owner like Paul Allen did he elaborate on this point?
You should really watch the interview. It's a great interview. Lots of cool inside information. I loved talking with MB. Such a great guy. Whoever this dude is, he said he ran into a player at a bar (wouldn't say who the player was) but he said he mentioned that it sucks we can't get free agents and the player said "it's not Portland, it's Paul Allen."
Holy crap... MB says that when the team was doing very poorly, the team legitimately could have moved to Kansas City or San Diego. Probably the Telfair days. He says Roy saved the team.
Almost anything he says I take with the same authenticity as info when he would spin that player X put on 15 lbs of muscle... Especially since the whole "moving the team" fiasco was 100% self inflicted.
I've come to like Hurd after hearing him talk outside of the games, but Calabro will always be mr Sonic who talks about wickets incorrectly when he says "between the wickets." The distance between wickets is the length of the cricket pitch, which is 66 feet. So he might as well say between the basketball hoops. It's the same idea. one wicket consists of 3 vertical sticks called "stumps" and 2 cross pieces called "bails." Callabro seems to be referring to the "stumps" which are not themselves wickets any more than a column is a building.
we just spent the last three weeks talking about Phoenix being Durant's number one destination. Chris Paul pushed his way to Phoenix. Hell even Aldridge and Blake Griffin took FA meetings there.
Mike Rice and Barrett were AWFUL. Calabro and Hurd aren’t much better. But nowadays I keep the sound off and listen to music anyway.
I've never heard of players not wanting to play for Paul Allen. I take it this anonymous player in a bar didn't give any specific reasons?
