"They played relentlessly and got us in a close-game situation," Flip Saunders said. "You have to play those games. This is a good test for us. This kind of game helps build trust and confidence in each other."

Cassell had 18 points and nine assists and Sprewell scored 15 points for the Timberwolves, who have won nine straight home openers since drafting Garnett.

"The season's going to be a lot of fun," Sprewell said. "We won, and I'll take the 'W' anyway you can get it. Winning is the biggest thing."

Olowokandi collected 11 points and nine rebounds for Minnesota, which committed just eight turnovers and scored 20 points off 13 Milwaukee miscues.

Desmond Mason and Michael Redd scored 16 points apiece for the Bucks, who lost their first game under coach Terry Porter.

"There are no moral victories in this league," Porter said. "Coaches get fired for not getting victories, so there are no moral victories. It's all about winning. I am, though, happy about the effort we had to get back in the game." </div>
