I hope you see the difference between "Sugar Land" and "Portland".

I dont see a difference. It could easily have been Port Land and Sugarland

Doesn't seem fair to lump New York into the group for both names. Knicks and Yankees.

Lakers is dumb because it was Minneapolis first. Are there lakes in Los Angeles?

Wizards is dumb also. That's actually a great example of what I'm arguing against. Seems they chose that just because of phonics.

The P P , or O O thing is fine if it's got meaning behind it. But something like Portland Pythons or Oregon Orangutans is asinine if it's just because of P P or O O

But it's not Port Land... so youre dealing in false hypotheticals.

I was just posting teams with alliteration. That simple. Based on the first letter of one of the actual sections of a cities name starting with the same.letter as the nickname.

You missed where I said it's a tiebreaker... C'mon man.. read my posts better than that.

Mac and Canseco = negated by ‘roids

But yeah.... your response is like saying the Blazers are world champs (they were 40+ years ago).

I starting to lean towards using Oregon rather than Portland, but whatever it ends up, great!

Oregon does encompass a representation of the whole Statehood, which I think would be a super move.
And I think it would be better brand equity for marketing.

Combine the two, the Oregon Portlandias, or as has already been suggested, the Portland Oregonians.

Agreed on the "Oregon" identification - in this age of inclusionism, it's the best route to take.

There is already a college in the state with that mascot though. I doubt they will copy something already in use in the state, but who knows.

No we have to use Portland

The rest of the state doesn’t even contribute towards our new stadium. The city is with the infrastructure portion of it

I don't think its mandatory we use Portland. The owners can call it what ever they want, the last thing Id want is for the Mayors office to determine what the team will be called.

I didn’t say that. Obviously the owners will decide. I’m just saying the owners should use Portland because it’s the city of Portland whose contributing towards the infrastructure improvements and what have you. So in fairness it should be named after Portland.

Plus 90% of the population of the state is in the Portland metro area anyways. It’s only right that’s it’s named after the main fan base

I don't have a problem either way as long as we get a team.
