18 minutes, 0-3 FG, 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 blocks 0 steals, 1 point Can Stotts finally just fucking bench this guy already? I don't care if Aminu is back or not. Play Layman for laughs. Start Turner again. Whatever. Just be sure to find a nice, warm spot on the bench for Mr. Harkless. This guy hasn't even hit his scoring average from last season once in the last month.
I think he thought he was getting traded to NY last summer and has been pouting since it didn't happen.
Aminu moves over to SF when he comes back. Even if it's not the right place for him he's still better than Harkless.
Layman scored 4x as many points in 1/3 the minutes. Now Jake didn't do a lot, that's just how bad Mo was.
Because he should come off the bench and Vonleh's best game was when he came off the bench, and our starting lineup gets us in a hole every game but the coach doesn't adjust. Connaughton played just 10 minutes, Leonard played just 3. I've made an effort to stop criticizing Stotts but he's simply not getting the job done
When Aminu gets back I’d start him immediately. It’s way past time for Layman to get a chance as well. Also is it me or does Layman look bigger this year? Think he’s been hitting them weights. Let’s see what he’s got.
There is something deeply personal going on with him imo. Maybe it is the New York thing but I think it might go even deeper. He has basically cut off social media lately as well. Maybe he and a girlfriend broke up. Whatever it is I hope he can get over it soon.
@ you people calling for Layman to get PT 'because he can't be worse than Harkless'. Obviously didn't watch the game tonight. Layman wasn't even in the game. the last straw is when Lillard went to pass the ball to him on the wing pick Portland runs for their shooters. Instead of being ready for the ball because you know he was WIDE OPEN. Layman had his head down and only noticed the ball went out of bounds when the refs blew the whistle. Guy is drift wood out there, and doesn't deserve to be on an NBA team. Let alone in a NBA game.
Lillard and CJ COMBINED for 2 assists. I don't fault his teammates too much for not expecting a pass.
It's one of the basic plays Portland runs. Get your hands up, get your head up, and be ready for the pass. Middle school kids get pulled for going into the game and not being ready to play. NBA players being paid to play basketball should always be ready. It's not like Harkless or Turner have been playing well. Layman had an opportunity there to force the coaching staff to play him. Instead he decided to pout on the court because he just missed a wide open layup the possession before.
Stotts faulted him as he pulled him, and rightfully so. Fans however make excuses, because they think they can do a better job.
The guy is terrible. Tade Harkless, Meyers and someone like Jake Layman might have to be Ed Davis to The Knicks for Courtney Lee, Kyle O'Quinn and Doug McBuckets after the 24th.
What fans think they can do a better job at being an NBA player? That is news... Not making excuses either. He should have had his head up....but Dame/CJ miss players so often when they are WIDE OPEN that he is certainly not the first player I've seen not making a hard cut or looking for the ball because they know no matter how open they are, most of the time they aren't getting the ball. It looked bad because this rare time, someone threw the ball to the open man. LAST IN THE LEAGUE in assists. It's not really surprising that teammates aren't exactly racing around expecting the pass.
http://www.nbcsports.com/northwest/...ss-and-his-struggles-i-feel-im-just-out-there Don’t like his attitude to be honest. Doesn’t really take responsibility for his struggles and pretty much blames everything else. Hey buddy, if you want more shots, give the team a reason to give you those looks. Hitting 24% of the shots you do get (often uncontested) isn’t going to help.
It looked to me like Layman was about to cut to the basket, because the back door was wide open. It would have been a very smart move if (I think Dame) had waited 1/2 second longer.
Layman moves well off the ball, maybe he made a mistake, maybe he didn’t, and even if he did, it’s fixable, and shouldn’t be a reason not to play him. How else is he going to develop?
