There are 43 white American players on opening day rosters. The Blazers have 4 of those. 8 teams have none. http://theundefeated.com/features/white-american-nba-players/
Only two are in our top 12 rotation, and only 1 is in our top 9 rotation... lots of white scrubs in the league.
With the way the game is changing to a more spread em out perimeter oriented style, I wouldn't be surprised to see a surge of white players in the next few years.
This is so misguided and just keeps on propagating stereotypes. There is like 0 conversation about guys who are half white (of which there are far more guys in the NBA that are mixed) than ever before. Just off the top of my head for Americans alone, you have Steph, Klay, Blake, Deron, etc etc. Then you got guys like Nic, Patty, Exum, Noah, Tony Parker from the international side. The world is becoming so mixed. It's best we learn to accept these new realities instead of just breaking down to white and black.
I agree........we need another chart for the study of anthropology and it's connection to basketball..... Stereotypes are rampant in hockey and soccer! How many Hispanic place kickers are in the NFL?
Yeah, the article would have been far more interesting if they had tried to get some perspective from a wider variety of guys. Players with mixed African and European ancestry are probably quite easily a bigger percentage of the league now than ever before.
You guys remember when Kenny Smith sent in DNA samples for Snoop Dog and Charles Barkley to see which guy was blacker? Results...Charles was whiter and blacker than Snoop Dog who turned out to be mostly Native American.....I'm 1/16 Lakota myself and Snoop Dog and I don't look anything alike
And oh yeah, those '97 Jazz were pretty friggin' good. So were the '86 Celtics who had like a billion white dudes. Blazers will be in the Finals in no time.
This is a weird thing to keep track of. What I want to know is how many teams don't have any left handed players. Who has the most lefties? Who is the greatest left hander to ever play the game? Who would win a 7 games series, the all-time left handed team or the all time right handed team? BNM
It would be fine if this was nuanced or done with an actual comprehensive look at the different races and multiple perspectives. But it's shoddy work. Marc Spears is better than this.
I need a wisdom tooth breakdown. Is there any correlation between extraction and production? The world needs to know!
I'd be much more interested in a breakdown along geographic lines than racial heritage. I think that would tell us which countries/geographic areas have the best (and worst) youth development programs. Which countries are disproportionately over and under represented and what are they doing right and wrong? BNM
