I loved BRoy and certainly Dame is one of my all time favourite Blazers. The name of the game however is a trophy. We won in 1977 - that’s a LONG time ago! I want to see another trophy in Portland in my days. Trade Dame while he is elite. Get back a blockbuster package for him that provides us with pieces that fit now, chips to trade in one year and draft picks. The Celtics are the best fit as I see it. Imagine the Celtics with the addition of Dame! Dame and Leonard (get rid of one of our bad contracts) To Boston Irving Morris Brown and the Memphis pick 2019 #1 ————— If Irving returns healthy, with McCollum / Brown at SG...that’s a nice back court Morris at PF helps fill the void left by Ed Davis’ departure. Re-Sign Nurk and do what we can to re-sign Napier to back up Irving And we most likely will have a top 3 pick in the 2019 draft with that Memphis pick we acquire from Boston. All but Morris would be under contract through 2020! Can we get anything better for Dame? Does Boston make such a blockbuster trade for Dame - you bet! Boston still has the Kings’ 2019 #1 pick.
I think you've received this feedback before--Dame's value is not such that we would be able to get Irving PLUS two other valuable pieces like Brown and the MEM 2019 #1. It's debatable whether Boston would even consider Irving for Dame straight across to be an even deal; even less likely considering Danny Ainge's trade history.
Just because Tatum is going ham doesn't mean they're gonna just give Brown away. By all accounts they see him as a huge part of their future. Let alone the #1 pick as well.
Ask yourself this question: Would I rather have a VERY slim chance at a championship, or a much better chance at my team having its first legacy player? Yes, ultimately I put the championship well above a legacy player. But to me, the next best thing is a legacy player. We don't have one. Dame could be our Reggie Miller or John Stockton. Neither of them won a championship, but they are HOF players that only a single fan base can lay claim to. While I'd much rather have Dame be our Tim Duncan, I'll settle for him being our Stockton/Miller. Now, if he ever so much as utters "trade me", I'd certainly look to cash in. But as long as he's on board with us, I'm on board with him.
In my view you don't trade your franchise player of high character who is a true leader ….you build around him. Trading Dame to me is not an option period...you're talking about a guy who put Portland back on the map globally...he is building the strongest brand for the franchise I can remember ever happening. Trading him for a guy who demanded a trade and thinks the world is flat is...well....
I would guess every Blazer fan wants another championship. Maybe it is time to accept the reality the odds are very long it will happen. Reason, the NBA is a players league. As long as the players can create super teams, most of the owners and gms are not competing on a level playing field. PA is doing everything he can just to get the team into the playoffs. I have given up on the NBA, (due to an endless string of very bad CBAs), but I have not given up on Dame. Just sit back and enjoy watching Dame's amazing game. His talent and leadership skills are very rare.
If you were going to move Dame, you be hitting the reset button, so.......as always I don't care about salary Dame to Phoenix for Josh Jackson and this years number 1 overall pick Then trade CJ to Denver for Gary Harris and their 1st this year, and draft Kevin Knox...use our pick to move up if needed. Ayton Collins Jackson Harris Baldwin
Followed by at least four more years in the lottery (assuming all are healthy and reach their potential) followed by them leaving in free agency for larger markets and super teams as soon as their rookie deals are up. BNM
Pretty much any trade you can make with Boston these days is a bad one. If they are willing to give up Irving, Brown and a good pick for Lillard it would mean that Irving’s injury problems are way bigger than we think, Brown has issues that prevent him from becoming great and that pick is somehow worthless.
Yeah, it's always a great idea to move a franchise player who wants to be here in their prime. God I worry about some of you.
It entertains me that this post is right next to the Dame got 1st team all NBA thread. The first day or two after the playoffs I was pretty annoyed and was in the trade them all mode, but really if they traded Dame for anything less than a superstar they’d pretty much be saying we’re gonna suck for a while... Also a small market trading there best player who wants to be there, has done a lot for the community would greatly discourage any FA from wanting to come here. No the Blazers gotta keep Dame happy, and build around him.
