Wow, Giannis goes down with a knee injury and most likely out for the rest of the series. Nate McMillan will likely head to the NBA Finals with the Atlanta Hawks in 2021. Who would of thought?
The only ones who think he is a shitty coach are some members here. Guy comes in mid-season and does this? Incredible job by Nate.
Im happy for him and I’ve always had the Hawks as one of my favorite non-Blazer teams. Still a lot of ball to be played though. Trae didn’t play tonight either.
Nate was a mediocre coach. Just saw an article saying the harsh "Sarge" dude is gone, he realizes it doesn't work, especially for a young team like the Hawks.
the series is tied 2-2 and the Bucks were in shock for most of the 2nd half because of the injury to Giannis. I don't think you'll see the same effort from Milwaukee next game and Young will still probably miss that game too in other words, Nate hasn't made the finals yet it would suck tonight to be a Bucks' fan though
If the Hawks with Young (if he heals) and Clippers with Paul Georg and Kawhi out so far both make the Finals, does that really shine a light on how much Stotts struggled as a coach once Dame went full Top 10 player 3 years ago? It’s reported Leonard may play Game 6 but will he be fully healthy, or actually be a liability on the court?
Utah was the top seed in the West. The West this year isn’t the West of old. If the Hawks run through the Knicks, Sixers, and Bucks without home court advantage in any of those series that’s impressive regardless.
It is OK to think that Nate was a mediocre coach while he was here, but also think he is doing a damned good job with a young Atlanta squad. A loooooong time has passed between then and now. He has been in different roles, around different coaches, and different players. He has probably learned some things, changed some ideas, strategies, etc. That's what makes humans pretty neat; the potential for growth.
Nate would be viewed much differently here if Roy and Oden’s knees didn’t explode. Oden was so raw but the team still went 51-25 in games he played. That roster healthy would have been a championship contender for five years especially when you throw in Nic, Rudy, and Wesley.
You would have hated it even more if Oden had stayed healthy. They ran high-low post when Aldridge and Oden were able to play together and that not exactly scintillating basketball.
Good for Nate. Happy for him. He has worked hard and put in the time and effort. Guy deserves the success.
So did this other team that won a few championships. Celtics. Winning is very scintillating and can even be exciting!
Side bar: watching the Hawks bench ball out last night reminded me that our bench rotation was three guys in the playoffs. And all three aren't all that good. Hawks are winning because they have a pretty damn good roster. We don't.
