The NBA 3 point line is of variable distance, ranging from 22 feet (6.7 m) in the corners to 23.75 feet (7.24 m) behind the top of the key. The difference between the baseline and behind the top of the key is almost 2 feet. For a few shooters (Dame) it makes little difference, for others it can be a huge difference. The sample size for this year is not big enough, but my uneducated guess is that it a huge difference for Harkless and Aminu. I cringe every time I see them try it from 24 feet. Terry gives them all the green light, but I would really prefer if they only shot it from the sides. The shots from behind the top of the key look like desperation shots when they take them.
I hate the corner 3. I mean, I love it when our guys hit them, but I hate that it exists at such a significantly shorter distance. I wish they would just keep the arc consistent all the way out to the sideline and eliminate the corner 3's existence altogether. Oh wait, forgot to do that in haiku form: I hate corner 3's. Too close for pro ball players. Make it go away.
I'm not much of a fan of the corner 3 either. Jist arc off the 3 point line in almost a straight line from one end of the court to the other.
Or make the width of the court another two feet wider? Not saying it would happen anytime soon but might be a good idea regardless.
Remember when the league moved the 3 point line in thinking it would make the game more exciting and higher scoring? Absolute disaster! Lowest scoring era in league history if I remember correctly! Everybody and their mother thought they were all of a sudden a 3 point shooter. What a mess that was!
They'd never agree to expand the width of the court because you'd lose too much money on those court side seats
While I agree with you guys that they won't do it I think they can do it without taking out any seats. Two feet is not much room.
Yeah, but remember when they moved it in? Brian Shaw?, of all people, set the record for most makes without a miss with 9. It was certainly an embarrassment for the league when a not very good shooter, let alone 3 point shooter, set the record.
