nurk defensive rating (drtg) since he got traded to the portland trail blazers mid 2016/2017 season Spoiler: season 2016/2017 Spoiler: season 2017/2018 Spoiler: season 2018/2019 Spoiler: season 2019/2020 Spoiler: season 2020/2021 Spoiler: season 2021/2022 Spoiler: season 2022/2023 keep in mind that seasons 16/17, 17/18 & 18/19 were pre-leg break and that seasons 19/20, 20/21, 21/22 & 22/33 are post-leg break, but its really curious that every center drtg has gone down season by season using eye test, we can clarly see that nurk has lost a step, its not the quickness he once had (not that he was ever really quick, but he was certainly quicker than he is now), which is also supported by the stats our fans say that nurk cant defend, but drtg says that nurk is top 10 among centers, so maybe our fans should appreciate his defense a little more... maybe if other centers drtg goes up where it once was and nurk stays where it is or goes further down, we can say he cant defend, but as of now, thats not the case nurk best drtg was 101.5 and the center with the best drtg this season is jarrett allen with 107.8
Good numbers. But don't compare apples to oranges. Nurk's 'best season' to Jarrett Allen this season. Offense is up off the charts this season so almost everyone is up. That is not to dismiss Nurk's impact on defense. He definitely helps to cover the massive sieve-like efforts from our backcourt. It would help if he was a little more mobile and more of a shot-blocker, but those guys are not just growing on trees. I think most people's issue with him is the 'whole' of Nurk. He is disengaged at times, notoriously soft at the rim on the offensive end, and while he can be a good passer, will also make terrible passes that offset the assists. If he more consistently brought the 'Bosnian Beast' part of his game, people would love him. But those nights are far too rare.
i agree with everything you said, but i posted this for two reasons: - to show that nurk is not the problem defensively - to compare nurk pre & post leg break regarding nurks mobility & shot blocking, itd be nice to see him cut weight and and go back to being 2017 nurk, just so we can see if he can get back his mobility or the leg break took it permanently
That genius is basically playing drop coverage because nurk is a big slow guy... As long as Chauncey wants to play switching defense, Nurk is going to be less efficient
this is exactly it. putting nurk in drop plays to his advantage. putting nurk at the level is conducive to his success. that said, terry playing drop was not the problem. terry belligerently sticking with drop even after guys like curry cooked it every time they faced it was. i wish he varied the strategy and adjusted, but no. we were playing drop against anyone and everyone. billups is at least a bit more flexible, but he has to also maximize his players' strengths and adjust accordingly.
Are you gaslighting me with the black font? Green is established. Black has never been known as the truth font. Alternative facts!
I think Curry averaged like 3 more points against the Blazers and needed 2 extra attempts to do so, shooting basically the same FG% he's averaged for his career across the league. The narrative that he always torched us is grossly over-exaggerated
defensive rating is a team stat and it a really terrible gauge for comparing players on different teams big men are almost always rated higher in defensive metrics, and a lot of time perimeter players are rated lower it's a lot more work but if you want to glean anything from defensive rating you need to compare the player to the team's defensive rating. Portland has a rating of 115.6. Nurk's is 111 but that's a rounded number. Anyways, Nurk is 4.6 points better on defense than the team. Eubanks ,s 3.6 points better; Hart 1.6 points better the year Whiteside played in Portland he was 7.8 points better than the team. The year before that Nurk was 7 points better while Kanter was 3 points better. In 2020-21, Nurk had an offensive rating 4.8 points worse than the team while Kanter was a pretty amazing 15.2 points better. That season, Nurk had a rating differential of +4; RoCo was +1; CJ was +2; Dame was +7; Powell was -4; and Melo was -5. Kanter, lol, was +20 so yeah, it's probably a good idea not to put a lot of stock in those individual ratings
