Apparently someone is doing polling to see how NYTimes columnist Nick Kristof would do as a gubernatorial candidate. So so am I. He's not your usual politician (Rhodes scholar, 2 Pulitzers). He lives in Yamhill. No elected office since being student body president at Harvard around 40 years ago. No idea what his platform might be at this point. barfo
https://www.oregonlive.com/entertai...ruggling-with-poverty-addiction-and-more.html Sure. His education and background seems to be ideal. Depending on his platform and presence I'd be willing to vote for him.
Apparently, the Secretary of State doesn’t think he’s qualified. https://www.oregonlive.com/politics...nor-secretary-of-state-shemia-fagan-says.html
His lawyers argued the fact he "considers Oregon his home," should mean something. In this case, feelings do not.
Dunno what million you are talking about, but if it is campaign contributions he doesn't have to give it back. Nor can he spend it on himself (subject to lots of loopholes, of course). barfo
Sounds like the long term, deeply entrenched hacks of the Democratic machine don’t want competition from an outsider who isn’t under their thumb. And Shemia Fagan is their gatekeeper. Now we have even more years of running in place to look forward to…….
I don't know much about this dude but i certainly am not looking forward to Tina Kotek. Stan isn't gonna win either. He should pay more attention to Sandy.
I think there could be something to that theory. But there's at least a pretty good case that she made the correct decision on the merits (whether or not that was her primary motivation). barfo
I have no idea who this guy is, but isn’t democracy all about allowing folks to vote for whoever they believe will represent their values the best? What a dumb law requiring residency to legally be allowed to run for office, if the voters care about that then they will vote for someone else. Allow the voters in the state to make that decision, not some dumb ass archaic law like that.
